So a woman in her 60's parks in an expectant mother spot..

I think these spots are so stupid.

ESPECIALLY at a place like BuyBuyBaby or Babies R Us - these stores are for babies, of course pregnant women are going to be shopping there. So the chances of one of those spots being open is slim to none.

There are usually only 5-6 spots designated. I remember getting that spot ONCE out of the 9 months I was pregnant.

These are fairly new. Were there THAT many pregnant women complaining about having to walk from a spot in the back of the lot towards the store?

We all survived the extra steps before these spots popped up...why all of the sudden do we HAVE to be able to park in the front?

some supermarkets have the same spots and honestly, i dont see why. Then they should have Senior Citizen spots, single guys getting beer spots, I need chocolate spots and so on and so on.

You can not possibly be comparing a pregnant woman with a single guy getting beer?

This has been Chat Icon , but what this woman did was totally rude. Whether you agree with the spots being there or not, they are there, and they are meant for pregnant woman. Doesn't matter if you like it or not. Parking in those spots when you are not pregnant is just plain rude.

60's is not old to me - she is not a little old lady. She was a snarky b!tch who just didn't have any consideration for the pregnant woman who would have wanted the spot. And all of you who are making excuses for her, if she had a medical reason to need a close spot, SHE could have gone to her dr to get a handicap pass.

Whether you agree with it or not, the spots are there as a courtesy for pregnant women, and if you are not pregnant and shouldn't take it.

Since some of you have compared this to offering a seat on a train to a pregnant woman, just wanted to add that I am 7 months pregnant and get on 4 different subway trains on a daily basis. I have been offered a seat 6 times in total, and 5 out of 6 times it was a woman offering. I have been obviously pregnant for about 12 weeks, so that is over 200 trains I have been on. So out of 200+ trains, 6 seats were offered to me. Obviously people just don't care if you are pregnant - they only care about themselves!

I really doubt the pregnant ladies were complaining and thats why those spots exist. If I had to guess i would think that one day BBB (or BRU whichever) said oh, the majority of our business is from pregnant women or women who just had babies. We want to attract pg women to come and register with us, lets offer them special spots so its convenient and they feel we care!

its all marketing and customer service in my mind. So one of those stores did that, now they all do. Same with a food store. I would *think* (no scientific study to back this up just my assumption) majority of the women of the household do food shopping. So food stores said hey maybe this will help attract them to my store instead of my competitor! Same with senior citizen spots.

there are so many types of courtesy spots not sure why this one is such a debate. PG, senior citizens, employees of a place, doctor offices, fuel effecient cars, etc etc.

why should a fuel effecient car have a special spot? they are the ones who can afford to drive around looking for a spot?! Chat Icon Chat Icon the list goes on and on.....

I find this whole thread hilarious! There is no "pregnancy" or "senior" parking here in the city and everyone seems to get around just fine. If someone is truly disabled they'll have a handicapped parking pass.I thought that woman's comment was hysterical and really proves how absurd the idea of "pregnant" parking spots is.

I think the woman sounds like she is probably a jerk. I don't think she'd make that quick sarcastic response if she was legitimately just having trouble walking or something that day.

People say there should be senior parking but I think for the most part that's what the handicapped access is for. My grandpa got one after his heart attack.

The preggo parking is at baby stores where there are tons of pregnant women. That's why imo it's different than just arguing for or against some general notion of "pregnancy parking".

I'm not sure why this lady is getting a pass. Bc she's old? Bc she's funny? or bc people dislike the pregnancy parking in the first place?

Whole Foods, Trader Joes/Old Navy in Lake Grove, the outlets, are just some of the stores I have seen pregnant parking, they do also have Senior Citizen Parking.

I don't think she is getting a 'pass', I just think there a lots of aholes in the world. She had a quick comeback. What are we gonna do, find her and tell her how wrong she was? or share a laugh, because so many pregnant people with a sense of humor have found her comeback funny..rude or not.

I guess it's store by store bc those places by me don't have it.

I am not saying her comeback wasn't witty- it def was. I just still don't think it's right. I just feel like the store is providing a courtesy for its preggo clientele and it's rude for her to just be like oh eff that.

I'm not sure if my response made you think I feel we should find her and scold her, lol, I actually wouldn't have even bothered if I was there- but that doesn't change the fact that I personally think she is wrong, kwim?

Some of you ladies need to find more important things to worry about, seriously. It is just a courtesy, I dont know why it needs to be made into something more than that. I don't understand this thread at all. Has half this world forgotten what it is like to be nice, just because?

No, not your response just everyone who is legitimately mad at this stranger..it is hilarious! People park in actual handicap spots that they aren't supposed to park in..this whole thread is really funny! We are talking about pregnant parking!

Should a pregnant woman be allowed to use the pregnant person parking spot if she is with her DH, or her mother, or her friend?

I'm 34 weeks pregnant with my third, have to wear full compression hose and a support belt in order to do regular errands without feeling lightheaded and im in pain all the time - I really appreciate those spots when they are available. In fact, I used one yesterday and apparently made a guy parking in one think twice because he saw me and backed out and went to a regular spot.

It's a courtesy. If you are able bodied (young, old, whatever) then be happy you can walk from the back of the parking lot! Don't get your panties in a bunch because there's a couple expectant mother spots!

Wow! I didn't post this with the intention of people arguing over whether or not these spots should exist..there really are wayyy more monumental problems in the world. I posted it mainly because I was shocked at the womans reply, I found it funny BUT i also did find it ballsy and rude. It just just something that happened to a friend that I wanted to share. i didn't set out to write a "ridiculous" thread as someone posted...just something to talk about i guess!

I don't think this discussion/topic is about justifying pregnancy parking or the existance of it and if you agree or not.

I look at it as a discussion of possible entitlement and rules of society (not laws). Etiquette, if you will.

I wouldn't have done what the lady did. Nor would I park anywhere else that was deemed a spot for old people/handicapped/employee of the month/employee parking.

There's a spot for the principal at my kid's school. I wouldn't park there, either.

The woman did not commit a crime or do anything to warrant a ticket, but it is (or seems to be) a small breach of courtesy.

I like to think that there are a small number of people who would do this.

I do get more angered by the people who use handicap spots without the handicap citizen with them in their car and are simply using their vehicle/tag to run errands when able-bodied.

Likewise, yesterday as I was pulling into a spot at Trader Joes, a woman moved her cart that she was done with - smack dab in the middle of the spot I was turning into. She wasn't doing it to be an assshole - I don't think she was thinking clearly. I went to get out of my car to quickly move it, but as she saw me go to do this, she moved cart out of my way.

It's literally a blip on the radar of my day. It's fixable. A small hassle.

But I still see the kindness in most people. I see it all the time. Saw a man help an older woman put her packages in her car.

Just gotta look for it. It makes all the small hassles disappear.

Well if the pregnant person needs to park close because she can't walk...then wouldn't she be dropped off at the door, freeing up the spot for a pregnant person driving alone? If that is the idea behind the spot?

Everyone is so mad at this stranger..it is crazy..I have seen pregnant women jump out of their cars with their dh's..kind of not-so-courteous if I was pregnant driving by myself. He could have just dropped her at the door!

Point is people aren't always courteous. The poster just posted this because I think she thought it was a funny comeback! Now everyone is some uproar!Chat Icon

Sorry but I don't find this funny at all.

If you don't find it funny, oh well.

Stick around a bit longer and see how many times people bring up the most amazing "what ifs" in drama threads. The diabetic thing is just a phrase that is a coverall for tons of things people assume. It's not JUST about diabetics. There's always some extenuating circumstance people have to take into consideration.

"You don't know why that person did [insert whatever thing here] maybe they have some rare social disorder that means they only know how to say f**k you because they were dropped on their head as a baby and then were raised by angry wolves then kidnapped by sad pandas and now have a hard time associating with members of the human race. YOU JUST DON'T KNOW!!!!!"

First of all I would want to punch the 60 year old lady who said that..someone would have to hold me back or put tape over my mouth..

Secondly, why on earth would anyone think those spots are stupid? I am 26 weeks pregnant with twins and I can barely walk, my hips are on fire with sciatica and I get winded when I walk too far. At work I had to get permission to park in the visitors area because I can no longer walk too far. I did not use those spots when I was early on and did not have these issues, but from now til delivery they are a lifesaver.
