When does it get easier?

DD is 7 weeks old. I get so frustrated and feel so isolated and I'm exhausted. I'm sinking! Everyone says it gets easier... when?

You are almost there!! I would say 8-10 weeks is really when things started getting easier :) My DS also had a milk allergy so he was presenting colic symptoms and by 9 weeks he was a different baby. Hang in there!

Chat Icon Chat Icon It's tough in the beginning but it will get easier soon. Are you getting out of the house much? Going for a walk isn't really my thing, so I used to go to BRU, Carters, or Target just to get out. It really helps the day go by and so you won't feel so alone. It also helped me forget that I was tired!Chat Icon

Re: When does it get easier?

Every baby is different but for me, things felt a lot easier starting at 8 weeks because my DD started STTN. That made such a difference, I was more rested and therefore able to deal with the day much better. It gets better, hang in there. Chat Icon

I also agree that at about 8 weeks, it starts to get a little easier. It is ROUGH in the beginning, such an adjustment. Chat Icon

Not really. It's so difficult to get out it doesn't even seem worth the effort.

ETA: I actually want to reschedule a drs appt because I can't deal with another bad day. And going out tends to throw of the days schedule.

I know exactly how you feel. I always felt a little better when I would have people come over or I would go on a play date. For me, I needed to socialize a little with other adults. Could you also maybe have someone come over to watch your baby and you just take a little nap and refresh yourself?

Appointments can be tough since you're on their schedule. I would try to get out when you're on your own schedule. I used to shower every day when DD took her first nap. Then I'd feed her when she woke up and plan where I wanted to go. Once she finished eating I'd get out the door asap since she was eating every 2 hours then. We'd mostly just window shop and if she started to lose it we'd leave. It is stressful at first but with practice it will feel good.

Re: When does it get easier?

Honestly, for me it was about 4 months. DD put herself on a schedule by then. And by 6 months it was much better. At 8 months I started medication for PPD. I just still wasn't myself. That was the major turning point for me. I wish I had discussed it with my doctor sooner.

Re: When does it get easi

Honestly with my first (she had colic) it wasn't until 4 months that I was on a good schedule and getting some sleep at night. I agree though you have to get out. I walked around stores, visited family, went to Starbucks and drank coffee. Some days she cried all day but I knew it would get better. My mom kept telling me there would be a day when I'd look back and it would all seem like a distant memory and it's 100% true. Soon you'll both sleep, and she will be sitting up playing an laughing, you will have a daily routine. You just have to hang on right now and know its going to be going up.

Re: When does it get easier?

It depends on the kid. My first one was easy at first. Sleeping through the night at 10 days, but then baby Asthma set in between 6 or 8 weeks. Those first 2 years were a nightmare.

My second one. She didn't start sleeping through the night until recently (22 months), was incredibly clingy and would go to nobody but me. I can honestly say, it is finally easier now with her.

Re: When does it get easier?

It will get easier, very soon. BUT THEN there will be another issue to deal with. lol. But I promise, getting out of the house, for even a short walk every morning, or to the store just to walk around will really help. I also HAD to have cheesy tv on in the background (think Real Housewives or Golden Girls) during those hard days. Chat Icon

When does it get easier?

haha I guess I just got lucky.. AJ got sick as a DOG at 8weeks... so not much easier for me. It took until she was 10-12 weeks before it got easier for me. By easier I mean I felt like i knew what I was doing or at least had an idea. AJ's always been a good kid. I've always 'enjoyed' it but that first month my dad was there to help the second month I spent worrying and learning, then I took stuff in stride more after that.

Getting out is the best thing you can do. Have a bag always packed with diapers, wipes, clothes, burp cloths, a toy and anything else you need so you don't have to worry about getting it all together and forgetting something. Feed the baby, change the baby and then GO! It can seriously get depressing just sitting home alone with the baby and just feeding, changing and napping. Try going to the mall or the baby movie - it really helps.

It will get easier soon, but sitting home all day can be so isolating. The key to getting out is being organized and prepared.

Re: When does it get easier?

It depends on the baby.
For me, I felt like I was on more solid ground around 4-5 months.
Like we were in a groove, had a routine, I was used to being back at work and the daycare routine etc

She didn't STTN until after 6 months old, but I got more used to the multiple wakings around 4 months or so

This !!!! DO NOT STAY HOME! I was scared to take DS out at first...what if I forgot soemthing or he cried and caused a rukus. DS was colicy and cried 24/7. But I soon realized it for whatever reason was only at home. He was a dream outside of our home. I spent my entire leave out of the house because of it. He is now an even better kid in public and I think it was because we were always out.

Thing def got better for me when I went back to work and it was the same time DS was better with the colic.

Walk the mall do anything just to get out. It does get better.

When does it get easier?

My DD will be 7 weeks on Friday, so I am right there with you!

This is a hard time of year with a newborn since going out for walks requires a huge effort (bundling up both of us) and going out requires going to public places that are germ infested.

I'm really looking forward to my DD getting her 2 month shots so we'll have a little bit more flexibility with going places.

This is my 2nd DC, and I feel I can handle it a bit better because I *know* there's a light at the end of the tunnel. It won't stay like this forever (with my first, I just couldn't "see" it!). Hang in there, it WILL get better. Chat Icon

You sound just like me in the beginning. I was a mess and exhausted. But hang in there! I promise it will get easier. For me it was around 5 months when DD started to STTN. It beginning is rough. It is a big adjustment and you are just tired! Try to get out of the house even if it is just walking around the mall.

At the beginning I thought I can't do this and how do people have more than 1 kid and do this a second time. Now 2 years later I'm trying to have a second kid so that is proof that it gets better. haha Chat Icon

When does it get easier?

DS fussiness peaked between 6 to 8 weeks which is also about the time I bought him the swing.
One day I woke up and realized that DS and I had STTN!

Of course, there will be stages when DC will have periods of night waking, but the first few weeks were the toughest. You're almost there!

Re: When does it get easier?

DS#1 was tough. He was pretty cranky and cried a lot at first. Weeks 4-10 were the hardest for him (and me). That being said, around 8 weeks he started sleeping 7-8 hour stretches at night. By 10 weeks, 10 hours, 12 hours by 12 weeks. So even though he didn't get to be an "easier" baby until about 4 months, I was fine to handle him once I was getting more sleep.

I also didn't get out much and I wish that I had. I felt isolated during that 4 month period. DH was gone 10-12 hours a day. No family or friends nearby to help, they were all working. Even going outside for a walk or to run an errand does a world of good. Babies are more portable when they are young, and still in a carrier. They can also nap on the go. So I would try getting out as much as you can.

DS#2 was an easier baby, but he needed to be held A LOT. But since I had a 2 year old, I was kind of forced into going out more because of him. Play dates, park, gym classes, etc. It made a lot of difference!

Re: When does it get easier?

I had a really difficult time adjusting after my son was born. I would say I started to feel a little bit better after about 3 months but I was still off. It was only after I went back to work that I was able to feel like myself again.

I too felt isolated. I would stay in the house all day and I wouldn't want to talk to any of my friends. But when I did talk to them, and they told me they had a hard time too in the beginning, it would make me feel better. But then I would still go back to isolating myself, lol. It's a vicious cycle and one of the hardest things I've gone through.

And yes, I agree that it always seemed difficult and not worth the trouble to try and get out but I wish that I had forced myself more. Just take a deep breath, shed some tears if you have to and take one day at a time. Being a mom is a really difficult thing. Hang in there!

Re: When does it get easier?

Thank you ladies for your support. I did go to the Drs appointment and everything worked out well. I just couldn't handle another bad day! The problem isn't DD it's me and I am being treated. DD slept well last night and today was so much better for me and I was so much more productive. Thank you again ladies!Chat Icon
