Help! Playdates that you don't want to do
I can't help who DD becomes friends with in school, but what if it is with someone whose parent you can't see yourself socializing with and both kids keep asking for a playdate?
My DD has a really close friend in school. She is such a sweet girl and they really get along so well. The girls keep asking for a playdate. Her mom works so it's her dad that is home and who I see all the time at the drop off/pick up. He asked today if we can arrange a playdate. I asked about maybe bringing them to a local place but he said there are tons of germs there. I do feel awkward about it and can't see myself having an ongoing conversation with him.
How do you deal with playdates you don't want to do?

You do not have to be friends with the parents. The kids can be friends, just arrange a drop off playdate at a house if you are comfortable.

I wouldn't feel comfortable dropping her off. She's 4 - I think she is too young for that.

Re: Help! Playdates that you don't want to do
honestly i just do them anyway. I've had a few playdates and it is awkward at first but i do it for ds.
Although i have no idea what i'm going to do if my son asks for one with 1 of the kids in his class because that playdate can absolutely NOT happen. My husband is a cop and this kids father is a dealer in town...

I have just sucked it up and done the playdate anyway. Offer to have the playdate at your house, and maybe after bringing the girl over and making sure she's settled in nicely, the dad may leave for a bit and come back to pick her up. If not, keep it short. Make sure you have "plans" at a certain point so the playdate has to end at a set time

What is the reason you can't see yourself talking to the parents?
DH always tries to avoid hanging out with certain families because he says he has nothing to say to them. I just make small talk and cater to the kids. As long as the kids have a good time, I'm ok.

This is so hard. As much as I want DD to make friends, it's hard to sit one on one with someone you just don't have much in common with. And the fact he is a dad makes it even more awkward IMO. Not sure what to do either. I would probably avoid it.

i I would just do it. But what about inviting another child from the class its generally easier and less awkward with more people.

my husband is the primary caretaker depending on his shift.
you shouldn't feel weird just because he's a dad. My husband can talk about the kids just as much as any mom can.

This is a great idea.
I only do one on one playdates with people I like a lot. However, I often host group playdates (3-5 kids).

Yes, I agree. We would do this with DD's preschool friends. But I don't really know a lot of the parents from the other classes. This dad is the only person I really talk to, but I just can't see myself having a 2 hour or so playdate. I am just going to suggest taking the kids somewhere and he can take it or leave it (if the conversation even comes up again)
