DS will be just about 23 months when his little brother/sister comes

Should I put him in a toddler bed and give the crib to the baby? Or should I get another whole nursery set? I know people who made the switch at 18 months, and others who waited until 3.5. I don't want to rush DS out of the crib, but I would hate to spend all of this money on a new nursery set to have him out of the crib soon. DS slept in our room in the rock and play sleeper until he was 4 months. If I keep DC in our room for that long, DS will be 2 years 3 months. He can go into a bed then, right? Ugh I didn't think this would be such a hard decision!

What about a twin bed with two full length bed rails? One step ahead sells a set and we used them. They were excellent. We kept the crib up so DS did not feel like he was being kicked out of his bed. Then after he went into his big boy bed we asked him if his sister could have it. He was happy to give it to her. My kids are almost 26 months apart. HTHextra long bed rail

DS will be just about 23 months when his little brother/sister comes

My daughter was 2wks shy of 23 months old and we bought our son a used crib. I think she was ready, but we switched her at 26 months and she LOVES it! I was worried because she loved her crib. She never tried to get out and really never showed any signs it was time. We put the toddler bed in next to her crib so if it was an issue we could just nix it right away. She slid out the 1st night and that was it. She never cried, was scared, or even asked for her crib after that. In fact she asked us to take the crib out the next day at nap time. We made sure she had all her toys/dolls/favorite crib things with her. So my suggestion is keep the crib up and put the bed up next to it. In hindsight I wish we would have just bought a twin mattress set and bed rails. I like the toddler bed, but it hasn't even been a year and she wants a big bed so the cat can sleep with her lol.

DS will be the same age when baby #2 arrives and we put him into a toddler bed once he started walking bc he always hated his crib. I would try with the toddler bed, he can get a few years out of it, they have some cute disney ones or wood ones, they're not expensive at all and then all you need to really buy is an additional crib mattress.

When DD was born, DS was still in his crib. I kept DD in my room (easier for me anyway since I was EBF) until DS was ready to give up his crib. At 24 months, he asked to sleep in a big boy bed. We switched him to a regular full bed with rails, and I gave DD his crib. I knew I didn't want to buy an extra crib because it would be one more piece of temporary furniture to deal with. Both children did fine.

Thanks ladies! We had originally said we only wanted one child, so we bought a crib that we intended on converting into a full size bed when DS turned 3. The best laid plans. DH and I are going to Ikea anyway later today so maybe we will look at some toddler beds while we are there.

My DS will be 27 months when Chat Icon is born. He is perfectly content in his crib though! I am going to have the baby in our room for at least a few months, but probably until it is sleeping through the night because they are going to be sharing a room and I don't want DS to wake up!!

I'm going to buy a toddler bed and transition out once the baby is born. Hopefully it will go smoothly!! We were at IKEA last night looking for toy storage and they had a bunch of toddler beds. I don't think they take a standard crib mattress though. They looked a little bigger then that.

My son was 22 months when his brother was born. At that point, he was showing no signs of being ready to love to a bed, so we just bought another crib, same one we already had. It is a convertible crib, so we knew it would stay with him for years anyway. We ended up converting his crib about 6 months later. With all the changes that come with a new baby, I didn't want to pile on another change if he wasn't ready for it yet, especially with something as safe and secure for him as his sleeping quarters!

dd will be almost exactly 2 when dd2 arrives in late nov. we transitioned her to a toddler bed in august. we were switching her room also and didn't want to make all these changes w a new baby. it worked out well.

DD was 27 months when DS was born. We put her in a crib at 25 months so she didn't feel like she was getting "kicked out" of her crib for the baby (he won't be sleeping in the crib for a few more months).

Re: DS will be just about 23 months when his little brother/sister comes

we started the toddler bed transition around 18m, bc DS2 was due on DS1's 2nd bday. We did naps in the bed for 1 full weekend and learned that we needed to get better bedrails bc he fell out twice. Bought better bedrails, and he took to it right away. No issues.

I say get him out of the crib ASAP so he doesn't feel like the baby is taking HIS crib!

My 26 month old is not ready for a bed yet. DC are 17 months apart and I went with a new crib that comes with everything to be converted to more. Got it from ikea. Very happy with it!

We put DS in a toddler bed two months before the twins arrived. He was 22 months and did great.

My twins will be 26 months when this baby arrives. I am buying an inexpensive crib for this baby and keeping their cribs to convert into a toddler bed when the time comes.

DS was 21mths - kept him in his own crib (he stayed in till about 3 1/2) It just made the transition easier. Didn't have to worry about him dropping naps/in and out of bed. I was lucky and got double naptime till he turned 4!

My girls are the same age difference and we switched DD1 to a toddler bed at about 26 months. She was SOOO excited for her big girl bed and so ready for it. We still kept DD2 in our room for another 2 months in the cosleeper.
