How much candy do you plan to let your kids have on halloween?
DS was 2.5 yo last year. He had a blast trick or treating but he passed out after we got home. We put the candy away and DS didn't have any. DH and I ate all of it! I don't think he even knew what candy was last year.
Fast forward 1 year, 3.5 yo would totally notice that all his candy is gone. Maybe I should let him pick out 1-2 pieces per day?
How much candy do you let your kids have?

I let them eat it for a few days after Halloween, I let them have what they want. I hide it, then I eat the bulk of it

I'll pretty much let them eat whatever - last year Sean didn't eat dinner b/c he was full of candy. Obviously, Colin didn't get any at all last year. But he's really not a sweets eater - that's all Sean.
Eh - it's ONE day of the year. I will let them have their fun and then it's over .....

I didn't realize I needed to make a plan  I guess the same amount I would give them for dessert? They are allowed to have something sweet every night if they finish their dinner. I don't plan on going out for hours TOTing (they are 4 and 2.5) so I can't imagine that they would get SO much candy that I need to formulate a game plan

Very little. I'll let her have a small bag m&ms and maybe a Hershey bar. Than I'll let dh take the candy to work. My dd is only two so I can get away with it this year at least!

DS really doesn't eat much candy so I probably just will let him have some M&Ms (if he gets any - if not I bought a bag).
We probably won't go out for long though - he's got a parade at school at 3:15 so by the time we get home, we'll just go to a couple of houses before just handing out our candy.

I don't even have a plan for potty training her in the near future so you can forget about a plan for Halloween candy.

I still had halloween candy from last year that I found when I cleaned out my pantry in July. I threw it away. I will let them have a few things over a couple of days, but then most of it goes to the office.

Nothing chewy, period. No fruit snacks, no gummies, no caramels, snickers, no twix, no gum, no lollipops with gum in the middle and no tootsie rolls. They are called toys or trash, yucky.
Nothing sour or covered with sugar sprinkles (aka nothing messy or tart).
Nothing she can choke on. No jolly ranchers, no live savers individually wrapped, no nerds, no twizzlers.
She will probably try to eat the lollipops (dum dums) on the trick or treat trail. I’ll bring my own dum dums to help ward off any unsavory lollipops like Charms.
She’ll be allowed a total of 5 candies from the approved stack. I will start by saying 3 and I know she’ll negotiate for more. But my limit is 5. I will let her have 5 more for the next day put in a special place so that the pumpkin doesn’t eat them. We are making a box and decorating it to safe guard it from the pumpkin.
The pumpkin will eat the rest with wrapper debris as proof.
She’s allowed to play with all the toys and junk that’s non-candy. She can have any and all pretzels, cheez-itz, non-sugar items.
The real destination of the candy will be Mom/Dad or our offices.
Wish me luck! LOL she’s 4 but I’m determined!

Last year they were one month shy of 2. They ate a Reece's PB cup each LOL. That was it and candy was gone after that. This year they will be one month shy of 3...I will let them have a couple of pieces that night and then the candy will be gone the next day again. I think I can get away with it this year...as for next year I'll probably allow a piece a day for a few days and then get rid of the rest.
They don't eat candy at all except for an occasional bite of chocolate and a lollipop after a haircut. For Halloween I'm totally fine with them having it and enjoying it for a day. But it won't be a regular thing while I can control it!

I always put them in a "treat bag" at the top of my closet. After dinner they can pick 1 or 2 depending on size.
Typically by about week 2 they forget about it & I save all the sugar type candies for decorating the Christmas gingerbread house with.

This! Never had a rule and I was never given any rules as a kid. Turned out fine. One day a year to have fun. Isn't that what Halloween is all about anyway. Not like I give them a bag of candy every night. We actually hardly ever have sweets in the house. DH actually loves it b.c it's an excuse for him to get some sugar fix.

I'm normally the laid back person when it comes to food. I will let them have candy.

I usually recycle what's in their baskets, like the hard candies, things they can't eat-or things I shouldn't be eating back into our bowl that I give out.
I let them have maybe a piece per night for a few nights, then the rest of it magically disappears-aka DH eats it after they go to bed.

I really like this recycling idea. Maybe after we get back from trick or treating, DS can help hand out candy.
We live in a cul de sac that is pretty private and we are the end house on the hill. I hope we get a lot of trick or treaters.
Last yr we rented a townhouse and we got a TON of trick or treaters. The entire time we lived in manhattan, I don't think we got 1 trick or treater.

I will leave some in the glove compartment of my car for when he doesn't want to leave the playground. Terrible mom, I know. Lol. Honestly though I will throw a lot out for my own sake. He can really only eat a few pieces until he's like bleh.

I will let him have a few pieces as we walk from door to door. The rest I will put away and give him when he asks for it.
The only thing DS really goes nutty over is lolipops. I mean he'll eat whatever candy we allow him to eat, but he won't ask for anything besides lolipops.
I know he will want some as soon as he sees the first piece hit the inside of his bag
We won't go out for long - probably 3 blocks and then call it a day. So I can't imagine there will be that much candy that we have to make a plan for it.
Plus, DH will probably put a huge dent in it before we make it back into the door

DD was 26 months old last year - she loved it.
i first went through the candy - through out all the hard candy / funky looking candy/ and then i left some for her and took some for hubby and myself.
I hid it on top of the pantry and every day she took a piece or two. then after a week the pumpking magically disappeared LOL
I am going to give away the organic fruit gummies and animal crackers. I dont want parents dealing with bad candy just to throw it out. SO ANNOYING.

I don't remember any restriction growing up.... but my friends mom use to let them pick out one piece each night, I think that was pretty good.
