moms who make baby food at home, please come in- would love to try and make baby food at home - where do I start ?
My DS is only 2 weeks old , but I figured I'll start doing research and find out all I need to know about making baby food at home . are there any websites, books I should be looking at? What do I need other than a food processor and containers? Would you recommend your food processor? what kind of containers do you use to freeze/refrigerate food? I will google as soon as I have some time , but I haven't had a chance to even scratch my head this past 2 weeks, so I figured I'd take 5 min and ask here
TIA

I have the So Easy baby food kit. DD is 4 & 1/2 months and I just started to make large batches to freeze. This kit makes it soo easy. It tells you when you should introduce what foods. What you can mix them with at what time and so on. It's all done in the microwave too which is quick. I just use my blender which has a food processor attachment but you could use a regular blender. I also have a food saver so I have been vacuum sealing them so they will stay fresh a little longer. You wont want to start too early before you are ready to start solids b/c they won't hold for too long in the freezer. I do think it's best to start early though and do large batches. That way you have a bunch to start off with and you dont find yourself having to make baby food a few times a week. Good luck! Oh and here is the link for the kit, I think if you look around you can find it a little cheaper... link

I just cook-- steam or bake the food, then put in the food processor. You need containers that are freezer safe. Make big batches at a time, and put in freezer so you don't feel like you always have to be making.

This. I used my food processor or magic bullet.

I used this site too
We boiled the food In a small amount of water, then used magic bullet to purée food.
I didn't freeze though, I would make enough for 2-3 meals at a time

There was an old ongoing thread on this that I haven't seen in a while. I remember reading a little of it. I'll be starting solids soon and wouldn't mind getting the thread going again. I'll see if I can bump it.

I love making baby food!
When we had just 1 baby, I made the food every 2-3 days and did not freeze anything.
Now with the twins, I make food 1x/week and freeze.
It's SO easy and delicious!
We steam or bake/roast most things and then puree in food processor.
For apples/pears, I put them in a pot covered with water, add vanilla and cinnamon and boil for 10 minutes. Then puree (I take out the excess liquid, but save it in case it's too thick).
Green beans - steam and puree. I add apple or pear to it to sweeten it a bit.
Sweet potatoes - I bake for an hour and then puree with a little cinnamon or nutmeg.
Zucchini - steam & puree.
Carrots - steam & puree.
Plums, peaches, nectarines - bake & puree.
Banana, mango, avocado - just puree or mash with fork. I add a little water if it's too thick.
We just started foods at 6.5 months or so with the twins, so that's all we have done so far
I love the OXO containers:
I also have BRU containers:
