Would you rather have 1 full day off or work less hours (5-6 hrs per day)?

I currently work 25-30 hours a week. I don't have a set schedule. I basically do full time work and get paid less than if I were working full time. Depending on the week, I do take my kids on about 2 playdates per week during business hours and 1 morning/afternoon for errands. I play it by ear and work more when it is busy and take time off when it is slower.

I am leaning towards asking for 1 full day off per week (maybe Friday).

Would you rather get 1 full day off or keep the flexible 5 days per week?

eta: I don't know if it makes a difference but DH has Mondays "off" and is home by 3pm everyday. He goes to the hospital super early and I do drop off at preschool at 9:00 everyday.

My answer depends on the stage my kids are at. With an infant, or toddler under 2/3, I would prefer one full day off, as long as it didn't mean longer hours (like 10+) the other days. With my kids in preschool or older, I would prefer shorter days to have more time with them after school. I wouldn't need the time off while they're in school.

i think i'd rather have shorter days so that I have time to clean and cook daily. 1 more day off would be nice but it wouldnt solve how rushed the rest of my days are.

short days would also be ideal for once my kids are in elem school.

Rather have flexible days 5 days a week.

Stuff happens, PTA stuff, school stuff, doctor appts, get home early on Halloween to dress her up, errands etc.

Not everything falls pretty into that one day off a week.

so for me.. less per day would be very VERY welcome than one day off.

I have Fridays off and LOVE it (well I'm on maternity leave now but going back in a few weeks). It's great to be able to plan something for that day or to go out to my mom's for a long weekend whenever. I'd probably get too stressed with a flexible daily work arrangement...ie: am I putting in enough hours, are my coworkers annoyed with my unpredictable schedule etc. This way everyone knows I'm OFF on Fridays and not to be contacted unless in an emergency. Love it.

I'd prefer the full day off (but my DS is only 16 months). with my job, I am sure I would get dragged into something once in the office and wouldn't end up leaving when I planned.

1 day off unless the shorter hours made it easier to get my kids to and from school etc

I just reduced by 1 full day with Fridays off. Made the world a different place.

Flex hours. I would prefer all short days.

A 5 to 6 hr day is really short. You get to take your kid to preschool (late start) and be home before 3pm... And you can do playdates during work?

Do whatever secures your job. I know of no one with a schedule as nice as yours.

I full day off, cause each morning its like it takes time to get settled, and time to get ready to go in......

I work 4 full days and love it (except for the pay cut that is). I vote for Friday's off. If I worked shorter days I would be running out leaving things hanging every day and it would be hard b/c all of my coworkers stay late all of the time.
