Moms whose DC had tubes in ears...
Approx how many ear infections did your DC have before going to ENT and/or having the surgery?
DD was earache-free until 12 mos. she's now 18 mos and gets ear infections/fevers like clockwork. I'm at the ped every 4-5 weeks.
Also, ped always rx Zithromax since she's allergic to penicillin/amoxicillin. I feel like Z is just not strong enough. Any thoughts?

I would say he had 4 double ear infections before going to the ENT. It was 6-7 ear infections before he got the tubes. Since then NO ear infections!!!! It's been 2 years.

My dd had 5 double ear infections and continuous fluid before we saw the ENT. She had about 8 double ear infections before tubes. She has had one double infection since we put tubes in and that was 8 months ago!

We had almost a solid year of more or less constant infections (the infection never really cleared up, it was just continuous) before the ped referred to an ENT. In hindsight, I should have called an ENT on my own before that. By the time we went to the ENT, she was barely hearing because she had what the ENT called glue ear, which is basically congealed nasty pus behind both eardrums. We scheduled surgery immediately and she had the surgery 2 weeks after that first appointment. That was almost 2 years ago. Shes had 2 or 3 ear infections since then, but they clear right up.
Good luck!!!

Thanks everyone ... That's my plan - to call ENT this week. It's senseless to have this go on every month. It's not fair to her.

my doc said 3 in 6 month period for my little guys especially if fluid always present
we waited too long with my older son and he probably had 5 months without hearing much also i did not realize but the fluid can cause scar tissue in the ear
with my twins they have aonly had1 ear infect in 5 months since they got the tubes and it was an easy fix with ear drops.
my older son has had tubes for almost 2 years and has probably had about 6-8 infections and usually still needs antibiotics to get over them
also be careful with using the same antibiotic back to back - the doc did that for my cousin's son and he ended up with a very deep infection in ear canal that caused the ear drum to burst - extreme case but our ped never uses the same one back to back when infections were within a month to 6 weeks apart
