need advice on pedetrician
I have a 2.5 year old son and I switched dr''s when my Daughter was born b/c we moved and it was a long drive to our old dr. I really like this new dr however my daughter is 6 months old and every time we go there she asks if we are using formula or breastfeeding.. i know its a simple questions but I find it annoying that she asks that everytime. This past time the nurse asked and then the dr asked too.. I cant recall my sons dr do this when he was little.
does anyone else's dr do this too.. i would just think its in the records but i notice she doesnt carry the past records with her in the room in a folder like our old dr, she carries one sheet and then they update the computer after the appt

need advice on pedetrician
My doctor use to ask me if I was "still" breastfeeding. At that age many moms decide to switch to formula, maybe that is why they are asking. It wouldn't change if that was the only problem I had witht he doctor, but you have to be comfortable. Good luck!

Mine always does also and he makes me feel guilty when I tell him I supplement. However, I love him and the practice so I wouldn't leave bc of that. do what you are comfortable with. GL!

Re: need advice on pedetrician
My pediatricians asks me each time but they are a group so I'm not sure if they really know us yet. My DD is almost 3 months and maybe they ask because some people just stop at certain points and go to formula.?
They do however bring her chart with them in the room each time to look back at her height and weight, etc.
I would say something to them or maybe check out another practice.

I agree with what others have said, many moms will breastfeed in the beginning and switch to formula at some point. The doctor needs to know how the baby is being fed at that time.

The nurse always asked if we were still BF and how many bottles of formula/how many oz DD was drinking (she got a tiny bit of formula when I would work). The doctor would often reask this question when he or she came in. I didn't find it odd. I know the vitamin DD was on would have changed if she was on formula, which probably had a lot to do with the question. I think it's a perfectly normal and important question.

Our Ped usually does the same thing. She never carries a file with her and always asks formula or breast feeding. It doesn't really bother me since she's a good dr. It's very common for people to be breast feeding in the beginning and then switch to formula.

Re: need advice on pedetrician
My ped asks at every appt. If Im still breastfeeding, but not because they forget, they just want the most up to date info. The practice is awesome because the 3 ped. all carry a laptop and my sons file is on there. So they update everything as we speak.

It's a standard question and I don't see why it bothers you. They need to ask because people switch/change feeding methods.

Re: need advice on pedetrician
Our ped office always asks "tell me what babies are eating these days" that leaves it open for me to tell them whatever I feel they need to know. When I was breastfeeding the doctors praised me for doing so well. That really boosted my ego at the time. I needed that!

Re: need advice on pedetrician
No my ped doesnt ask anymore now that she knows she is on formula. She just asks me if she is still on enfamil newborn and how many oz she takes in. To be fair though my ped knows my children very well. She doesn't look in their file for much.

At 6 months, the baby's most important job is to grow. I don't find it strange at all that your doctor wants to know what you're feeding your LO. Okay, maybe it's written in a chart somewhere, but it's probably quicker to just ask you than go through his notes from the previous month. It's not like he's saying, "are you breast feeding like a good mother or formula feeding and poisoning your baby?" It's a normal, simple question; please don't read too much into it.

Re: need advice on pedetrician
I'm asked everytime and I assumed its because a lot can happen from one visit to the next where you'd have to switch from Bm to formula. Now what got me annoyed was being asked at my OB office evey visit when preg when my last pap was and what my due date was. That should be the kind of info that's in the charts

Re: need advice on pedetrician
if its not something they note, they ask...
my ped is phenomenally good, but he sees maybe 20 kids a day. I really am surprised that he remembers us at all. He actually does remember that we where bf and when we stopped, but he makes the same dumb joke about how tall DS is every single time.
