when and how to stop using swaddle me?

Ds is 4 months next week and isn't really a napper and at night if I don't use swaddle me forget about anyonme sleeping lol. He is almost 17 pds already and I use the rnp. Should I transition to crib first and keep using swaddle me or keep in rnp longer with no sewaddle me? I love the rnp bc when he wakes up often I can just reach obver to it bc he is next to bed and rock him back to sleep. Just soooo unsure of how to move onto next stage. Plus he rarely naps during day unless he is on me so we both need the few hours of sleep at night desparately. Any btdt advice?? Tia!!!!

I never used the swaddle me..but I will give you my thoughts on the rnp....stop now! as much as I loved it for DS's first few months,it was an annoying transition...especially if your LO is a big baby like mine...he just looked so uncomfortable after a while..like he had no room. He also has a flat spot on his head, which I think was from him being so confined. I transitioned him to the pack n play in my room for a week..just so he can be used to sleeping on a flat surface, and I selfishly didn't want him to leave my room..and guess what? he was too big for that too! I don't think he was very comfortable...once I put him in crib he STTN after a few days of getting used to it and didn't toss and turn as much as the pack and play..he was content. I felt guilty for keeping him out of it....In my opinion if you need to break two habits, just do them at once and put him in crib without the swaddler..it may be torture but you will all survive..Good luck!

no experience but OMG he is 4 months already!!! and 17lbs !!! can't wait to meet him (and you for that matter)!!

I can't comment on the RNP because I didn't use one.

I always dreaded change so my opinion would be to do it all at once and just get it over with. It may be a few rough nights but as soon as your ds starts rolling you will have to stop the swaddle anyway.

We stopped the swaddle in steps. one are out, both arms out and then off all together.

I tried quitting the RNP and SwaddleMe a few times around 3-5 months, but my son apparently wasn't ready to quit both until 6months. Then, one night, I quit both cold turkey and he did GREAT! I thought it was going to be a matter of him getting used to sleeping in a crib without the swaddle me, but for him, it was about timing and his startle reflex calming down.

Good luck! I stressed over it BIG TIME and it turned out FINE!

By the way... my doc said that habits start forming at 6 months, so if your dc isn't ready, you have some time...
