Toddler Moms, how do you 'get ready' to go out?
DD is 17 months and basically has a meltdown if she doesn't have my undivided attention. She might play alone for 5 minute stints but she's always quick to come looking for me (then follows me around screaming and yanking on my pants until I stop what I'm doing). I have a REALLY tough time getting ready to leave the house. I won't keep her in the bathroom with my becuase then she's trying to play with the toilet, toilet paper, garbage can, shower, trying to get into the cabinets under the sink, etc. I can't take my eyes off her. I'll try to keep her in my almost babyproof bedroom off the bathroom but she just keeps trying to get at the things I can't babyproof. It's so hard to get ready that I dread leaving the house on a daily basis. How does everyone else do it???

I usually try and get ready for the day when DS is taking his nap. What about showering at night when LO is asleep??

I already do shower at night, it's the putting on make-up, trying to make my hair look half way decent (and by this I only mean a neat ponytail, no real 'style'). I do it sometimes when she naps but lately we've been going out before her nap so it's really throwing me off.

I have a vanity in my room where I do my hair and make up...Upstairs I close my bedroom door put on her show and she plays on the bed. Maybe try getting ready in another room?

Baby proof.
Toilet paper up on a shelf.
Toilet locks.
Cabinet locks.
Shower the night before and cut down on your routine.

I sit DD on the counter (with me blocking her so she can't fall off) while I get ready. I pretend to put makeup on her to keep her interested. She loves it.

Re: Toddler Moms, how do you 'get ready' to go out?
I shower at night so it's mostly minimal getting ready in the am. I baby proofed most of the bathroom and our room. I also have a small container that is in the bathroom that has some fun things in it, old (but clean) make up brushes, hair brush, some large hairclips, etc. She sits on the floor and plays with that while I get ready. She has a basket of toys in our room too that she can play with if I'm taking a long time to get ready. If I'm really really taking forever and she's antsy I can usually give her my phone to watch elmo or the ipad which keeps her attention for 10 minutes or so.

This. Also I always make sure the baby bag is stocked full of daipers, wipes, change of clothes, etc so all I have to do is grab and go. You may even want to dress her as soon as she gets up in the morning....that may save you some time as well.

Re: Toddler Moms, how do you 'get ready' to go out?
During the week DH is with DD while I get ready. If he's not home and it's just me and her, I put a gate up so she can play with her toys and can't get to me in the bathroom getting ready. She is CONSTANTLY at my feet, so I know how difficult it is. I can't move a foot from where I am without her there.

ITA. DD loves to comb her hair, and the five minutes or so that it holds her attention is just enough to toss on some concealer, lipgloss, and mascara.

I close all of the bedroom doors upstairs except for the bathroom and my bedroom. I put on his favorite show and that buys me 10-15 minutes while I'm actually in the shower. I talk to him while I'm in there and I can see him if I peek my head out. I do everything else while he plays with his toys in either his room or my room.

Glad to hear I am not the only one that lets DD "play" with makeup!

Also you may want to have some toys that she can only play with when you get ready. This might keep her entertained for a little longer.

For the most part, this!
DD actually sits in the bathroom with me while I take a shower and she talks to me. We have a toilet lock and cabinet locks and the toilet paper is on a shelf. I give her a toothbrush when she's in there and she's good.
When I'm in the bedroom, I have the tv on and I make her part of the process of getting ready. So, she mimics putting on make-up sometimes with her own make-up brush that I gave her. She'll even pick out shoes to wear herself and walk around the room. It works for us.

I leave a couple of little toys and 5 books on her crib rails. She wakes around 7 and she is good for at least 30 mins "reading", and playing in the crib. That time allows me to shower and get ready for work mon-fri. On weekends, I put on Elmo and I can usually get 10 mins to myself to get ready.

since about 18 months, we gate DS in his playroom (spare bedroom). Nothing dangerous in there and I check on him every so often. He is 28 months now and never an issue. He is also an awesome independent player because of it

Re: Toddler Moms, how do you 'get ready' to go out?
I get ready before she gets up. I shower right after my husband gets out and do everything from there. She's usually awake playing in her crib for a bit before I get her.
Before We go out, I run into the bathroom and do touch ups and out the door we go.

Re: Toddler Moms, how do you 'get ready' to go out?
This! Or in the morning before he wakes up. I keep him in his crib a little while longer. He always has a book, stuffed animal and other stuff to keep him busy in there. When I hear him that's when I hope in the shower (at the latest). I know how you feel though that's my 18 month son as well.
As for the bathroom they sell a kit to baby prof the bathroom. Has a toilet lock, something for the paper and all the draws and cab. It may really help!

Re: Toddler Moms, how do you 'get ready' to go out?
Put her in the pack and play and let her cry if she has to, you'll know she's safe. I also cut down drastically on my make-up routine, my clothes are very basic so it's easy to throw together an outfit, and I shower in the morning before my kids wake up.

Re: Toddler Moms, how do you 'get ready' to go out?
I get up, showered and dressed before my kids are up for the day. They are both up for the day between 7-7:30, I get up around 6:15. This way, not only am I ready to face the day, but we are always generally ready to be out of the house after breakfast with minimal obstacles.
ETA: My kids are 3.5 y/o and 2 y/o

I either shower the night before or I shower when my DD is taking her morning nap. I can never leave the house before her morning nap. But if for some reason I have to get ready when she's not napping, then she just runs around my bedroom and makes a mess lol. I put on the TV for her but it only keeps her attention for a few mins.
