Baptism & Godparent Question
DH's best friend wants to be DD2's godfather in the worst way. His parents never continued his religious education passed communion. He is willing to take any class, any anything that the church wants. Does anyone have any experience with what steps he needs to take? Does he need to make confirmation, or is there another word for it when you're an adult?

Re: Baptism & Godparent Question
i believe he will have to make confirmation if the Godmother is not a catholic...if the Godmother is Catholic-he can be the witness--you only need one Godparent to have completed all sacraments
usually, the classes are all combined in one like baptism, communion, and confirmation-all together-as one class that may last a year long

Baptism & Godparent Question
Most churches require one godparent to be confirmed. The other will be a "witness" technically (which to me makes no difference) if having them both be confirmed is a requirement of your church, or is important to you, have him contact the church about RCIA classes (I believe is the initials used) if he calls and explains the situation (or you do) they'll be able to point you in the right direction.

Re: Baptism & Godparent Question
I had done this for my friend. i had to go to CCD as and adult. i called the parish nearest to my house and attended classes for 6 months one day a week and had ceremony around Easter time. I dont know if it changes for each parish but call them.

Re: Baptism & Godparent Question
I think it depends upon the church and how strict they are. My church went with the honesty policiy and didn't require me to show proof for both godparents. However, when I was godmother, my sister's church wanted me to receive a letter from my parish confirming my standing in a church.
I recently heard of a church requiring someone in your case to attend mass regularly for 3 months prior to baptism...I guess to polish there catholic skills???not sure..lol
I would call your church and just ask them what is needed without offering all of his details.
Good luck.
