Working Moms who pump.. I made a boo boo
So, I normally pump 4 times a day, once before i leave for work, 7:00 ish twice at work 1:00 and 5:00 and once before bed 10:00. This is the second day in a row that I forgot one of my pump parts at home so I cant pump at work!! I pumped at 7, and will pump again at 6:30 and then at 10...
Maybe this is silly but is missing a pump two days in a row going to effect my supply? =(
ETA: Thanks for the suggestions, there are no stores by me that would carry the part. I am ok with the discomfort.. more so just worried about supply.
Many of you ladies mentioned leaving a spare set at work. I do have two sets, one for home and one for work, but I have to take the one I use at work home every night to wash it/sterilize it. For those of you who leave one set at work, what do you do to clean the parts if you dont take them home? Do you clean it in your office? do you bring a sponge with you? how do you dry the parts?

I think you'll be okay. I would buy extra parts and leave them at work for the future.

Can you run out during lunch and buy spare parts?

It may reduce your supply a little but it will go back up when you start again (supply & demand).
I would hand express to alleviate the swelling or if you have a Buy Buy Baby, get a handpump.

Re: Working Moms who pump.. I made a boo boo
like pp said, try hand expressing. I had to do that when I forgot parts too. It kinda sucked that I expressed it right into the toilet but it helped the engorgement and at least milk was being emptied so that my body would make more.
I don't think 2 days will affect your supply. But if you feel like it dipped, there are plenty of things you can do like drink tons of water, steel cut oats, mother's milk tea, flax seed etc

Yep, definitely need to have spare parts to leave at work.
Is there a BRU near you so you can grab parts there and then just pump and dump until you can sterilize the parts?

Re: Working Moms who pump.. I made a boo boo
It depends on your body. I used to pump at work at noon. Some days, I was just too busy and would go from 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM with no feeding and no pumping, and I was 100% fine. No engorgement, no leaking, and no supply problems the next day. I don't think one or two days will affect your supply at all. You might be uncomfortable, though - I have friends at work that do get uncomfortable if they miss a session (I'm just lucky I guess!).

Re: Working Moms who pump.. I made a boo boo
Thanks ladies, I have gone a day before with such a long lag bw pumping and have been fine (a little discomfort and no supply issues) but two days made me nervous! There are no BBB or Babies r Us nearby unfortunatly. I may try to hand express although I did that once and it took forever and I barely got anything but I;ll give it a try. I just forgot the same part tw odays in a row .. arghh.. !!

Oh I did that once but I had to pump bc I would be too engorged if I didn't. I work n the city and was able to find a local drug store that sold Medela parts- it was the yellow pieces I forgot! I would search for places that may sell it but you'll probably be fine but sore if you dont.

Re: Working Moms who pump.. I made a boo boo
I saved myself a lot of headaches by keeping extra parts at work. It didn't cost a lot on amazon either.
I am a teacher so I have a sink in my classroom. I washed it in hot soapy water and every few days, used those microwave sterizer bags.
They were dry by the next day.

The extra parts I kept at work weren't used daily--only in an emergency if I forgot that day. You could also get a $25-$30 hand pump to keep in your desk.

They sell that bag that you can put the parts in and pop it in the microwave to sterilize them or just wash them with hot soapy water in the sink and let dry.

BUY A THIRD SET!!! They are so inexpensive - just leave them at work so you don't have the stress. Also leave the bags you can pump into with the attachment at work.
Your supply should be fine.
