Re: To pierce or not to pierce

Some pediatricians do it. I know there are some places that people on here recommend but I don't recall what the names are - i'm sure you could find through a search though.

For us, my DH is adamant that we wait until she can ask for it herself. I'm fine either way, so I deferred to him on this one.

To pierce or not to pierce

It's a personal decision. I don't have a daughter (not yet anyway!), but if I ever do I will not have her ears pierced as a baby. I will wait for her to ask for it herself.

We did pierced our DD ears when she was just shy of 6mths. I was so so scared to do it but I am so happy that i did! She didn't even cry, I did but she didn't haha
We went to a local jeweler bc my ped doesn't do it

Its your decision but I wouldnt put my baby girl through any pain for just looks. She may choose to not want them. If she wants them when she gets older then well do it. My mom asked me and I chose to do it when I was about 8.

Re: To pierce or not to pierce

We are in the same place...to pierce or not. Baby is almost 3 months. I watched ear piercing of baby on UTube and did some research. Now, I am not sure I want to pierce so young.

I found a pediatrician to do it but I am backing out now because read earings can be a choking hazard, they can't sanitize the gun but the earing is sanitary and the issue of pain for DD. Although it is quick and they won't remember it, I am still afraid.

Good luck with your decision

We pierced DD ears at 6 months. Our pediatrician doesn't do it so we went to the Piercing Pagoda. They were great with her!

To pierce or not to pierce

My ped did it around 5 months old. Her ear lobes were numbed with an ice spray. He didn't use a gun and I saw the earrings come out of a sterile package. I believe they are made of surgical steel.

To pierce or not to pierce

My ped did it when she was about 4 or 5 months old. It was harder for me than her.

ETA: Ped did not use gun, earrings were in a sterile package.

DD had her ears pierced at 6-7 months at Piercing Pagoda. The earrings were sterilized and they are what pierced her ear (sharp point at the end) and it was inserted directing into the backing which is extremely hard to get off. Super fast and easy, more stressful for mom.

As for opinions, I obviously think its a great idea to do it young. For one she has never played with her earrings tried to take them out or be curious about them. And two, I have many heirlooms to pass down to her that I know she will be thankful for Chat Icon
She is three now and wants to change her earrings to match her outfits lol.

Re: To pierce or not to pierce

We peirced her ears at about 10 months at a pediatric immediate care in smithtown. It was very sterile and a nurse did the peircing.. They used a numbing cream so it was no big deal at all. I was very happy I peirced them until she got a little older and kept pulling them out! We tried every kind of earring back they make but she could remove them. Her holes would close up almost immediately so putting the earrings back in was a pain in the neck. We went through hell for a couple of months and then she get better and forgot about them for a little while but then she rediscovered them around 18 months. I could only allow her to wear them when she was being monitored very closely. The minute I turned my back She would pull them out and throw them some wear. They werethe bane of my existance! It was horrible for her and me. Closer to 2 years she got better and I didn't have to follow her from room to room making sure she kept them in. Now I put them in in the am when she wakes up and take them out just before her nap. It has been just enough time to keep her holes open. I thought I was doing her a favor by piercing her ears young so it would save her pain, but instead I've caused her more pain and discomfort. I wish I would have waited. It is no fun having 2 people hold down a screaming baby while you try and shove an earring through a closing hole.

I wanted to pierce DD's ears but my DH doesnt want to because he doesnt think we should put holes in her body that she didnt ask for. So I have to respect that. I had my ears pierced when I was a baby and then they got infected and I got them pierced again around 6 years old when I asked for it. So i plan on taking DD when she is ready and I want to make it a mommy and me moment.

Thanks for all the responses. After reading them, I think I may wait. Maybe when she gets older she will want them done.

To pierce or not to pierce

If I was having a baby girl, I would do it while she was young (under a year). My mom waited until I was 6 and I still remember it- they did one at a time. After the first ear, it hurt so much I refused to let them do the second!! THEN one fell out a few days later and I refused to let my mom either take the other out or put it back in. I ended up having to do it again at 8.
She ended up piercing my sister's ears as a baby and it was so much easier!

Re: To pierce or not to pierce

We're waiting until DD asks for them. She's 6 now.

BIL's girlfriend's DD had them pierced when she was a baby. There's still an earring of hers that, as a baby/toddler, they're not positive if she swallowed it, or it just got lost somewhere.... Chat Icon
It was over 10 years ago, so whatever happened, it's fine now, but that incident convinced us to not get DD pierced until she was older.

Re: To pierce or not to pierce

None of us can tell you what would be best... I personally will not be piercing DD's ears until she says she wants it. I believe my mom got mine done when I was 2.

I brought my DD to the jeweler between 6-7 months and I have no regrets. She loves them and we've never had an issue.

Not a fan of them on babies. Maybe when DD is 3 or 4 I'll prob feel otherwise.
