My 4 1/2 month old hates his car seat....any suggestions??

Over the past few months, my DS has been getting less and less tolerant of his car seat. We have the Graco SnugRide Infant Car Seat. We have the mirror on the rear seat so he can look at himself. He has 2 toys that hang from his car seat. I normally give him a rattle or snuggle blanket to hold. But its just getting increasingly worse. It's now at the point that as soon as we sit him in the seat, the second he feels the straps come around his shoulders, he starts screaming. I'm always double, triple, quadruple checking to make sure that the buckles aren't pinching him. I just don't know what to do. Obviously, we can't not travel. That would be ridiculous. But I just feel so bad for him. He screams and cries the whole time that by the time we get to where we need to go and he gets out, he's soaked from sweating. He can fall asleep in it but I'd say that it only happens about 25% of the time. There have been a few rare occassions that he's awake and quiet which leads me to think that it can't be that he's getting car sick. Ugh! I'm so lost. Any suggestions??

Sorry you are dealing wih this. I know how stressful it is. Dd is 2 and still hates the car seat but it was alot worse when she was rf. when we turned her it was better by still not 100%. When we travel together one of us sits in the. BAck with her. She's 2 know so we have the d d player set up and that has helped but before that she would and did scream for 3 hrs straight while stuck in ny traffic. Its awful.

I have no real advice. What I do suggest is to check the straps. Do they need to be raised a notch? Did you take out the infant inserts? Maybe the straps are being pulled to tight? On my infant seat I was able to adjust the strap btw her legs as well.

It sucks. I know. I have been there. Most people say it gets better and it did a bit for us but she now yells that she's stuck and "struggles" to get out.

you can try a convertible car seat, he may like that better

Sorry i know it's not funny but i'm laughing because i've been there. My 1st was the same way. Nothing we did made a difference. Just time. Once he went in the convertible seat, he only screamed 2/3's of the time. Then when he was changed forward, he only screamed 1/2 the time. Probably by the time he was a year and a half, he stopped screaming all together. I know that probably doesn't make you feel better, but hang in there!

Thanks guys! I've been reading on a bunch of different sites about it and many say that the convertable helps. We're going to switch it this week and pray!

switch to a convertable car seat. Maybe he is feeling squished by the infant seat?

My DD was like this until 12 mos, a NIGHTMARE in the car. We have DVD players built into the seats, but since she wasn't forward facing, they were pointless. One day I decided to just spend the money and buy the portable DVD player that plugs in. I swear, she is a friggen angel in the car, in fact, she doesn't wanna get out of the car. Best $100 ever spent!
