NJ Kid friendly beaches with boardwalks?
We have not yet gone to the beach this summer. 3yo DS is looking forward to collecting shells.
Can you recommend kid friendly beaches with boardwalks in NJ?
Would prefer not to drive too far from 1-95. Looking for something on our way up to NY from DC. We have 2 trips to NY in the next month and would like to detour to a NJ beach. We can either take a half or full day detour or spend the night.

I remember wanting to check this place out when we still lived in Manhattan. We rarely left Manhattan when we lived there though.

Why? We take our kids to Seaside Heights at least once each summer. I love it. I think it's very kid friendly, especially during the day. DH has been going there since he was a kid. I might not stay overnight there, but for the day it's fine. We are going there this weekend actually.

Both kids LOVE aquariums.
How much time should we allocate? Would half a day be sufficient?
I'm thinking 1 hour at the beach, 2 hours for rides and eating on the boardwalk and maybe 1 hour for the aquarium? It seems like everything is pretty close together.

ITA. It's fine during the day, and even at night if you know the right places to go. My family has has a house there since the 1940's and we take the kids all the time.
However, I think Point Pleasant is geared more towards kids and families, so I would go there if I were in your shoes.
ETA: I think you would be fine if you allocate half a day. Everything (rides, beach, aquarium) is close together.
