Taking your child out of school for a week for Disney

If DS is going to miss school (1st grade) for a week I want to go when there is the least crowds and when its not too hot. When would you go?

Re: Taking your child out of school for a week for Disney

We just went the last week of April. I thought it was a perfect time. The weather couldn't be better (70's in the morning and mid-high 80's in the afternoon). We would go to the parks in the morning and lounge at the pools in the afternoon. No more spring break crowds so not many school aged children. It was great!

The next time we go, we may go in early December so we can see all the holiday decorations. It would be too cold for the pool though.

This is the exact week I was thinking or January. The only thing that concerns me about January is it will be too cold.

I spent many hours researching Disney before we went. I can't recall the exact website but there was a website that ranked order best times to visit Disney. You should try googling or maybe someone on here can point you to the website.

I believe it is based on weather, crowds and cost.

I think the week we went (last week of April) was like 4th best week of the year. I want to say first week of December was rank first. August was down on the list as was Christmas week. August is cheap but scorching hot so undesirable. Christmas week had the highest crowds and cost the most.

We plan on doing this next year. We always go the week after thanksgiving. The crowds are not crazy and the weather is nice.

IMO, I'm not a fan of taking kids out of school for a vacation. That being said, in September you can possibly work around a Jewish holiday if you aren't celebrating it. Then, he will only miss 1-3 days, not a whole week.

You really don't want to be in Disney when schools are closed............WAY too crowded and for what is costs to go to Disney it's worth it (IMO) to skip school. Missing a week of school in the grand scheme of the school year is no big deal.

I lived an hour from Disney for a few years and we LOVED going Sept through Mid November. (Starts getting crowded around Thanksgiving) And also the first few weeks of December are usually nice but it gets insane as Xmas approaches. Jan/Feb are usually okay but if you worship the heat it won't be the best time to go. April/May is hit or miss. I've been at that time where it's totally quiet and other times where it's pretty packed.

I personally like the fall the best. The parks aren't open as late but there are NO crowds so they don't really need to be. Have a great trip!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

March, October, November. I've been there during these months and the weather is gorgeous!

With March, just try to find out FL schools spring break. We went this year and Magic Kingdom was PACKED! It was spring break for the FL schools.

LOL with that said, go for Sept/Oct.

Re: Taking your child out of school for a week for Disney

We went in January ONCE and it was pretty cold.

Since then we've always gone in October. We LOVE being able to go trick or treating in MK, love the haunted houses at universal. The weather is usually warm enough to swim some days too which is great. I am considering going 10/27-11/3 this year because I so want to see the christmas decorations but def dont want to risk the cold in december. I believe they go up november 1st so we would be good.

I agree with you on this one. I'm not in a position to plan that trip just yet nor is my child anywhere near going to school so who knows...maybe I'll eat my words in a few years but I don't like the idea of missing school for a vacation...especially a whole week.

Re: Taking your child out of school for a week for Disney

I would suggest election day week in November. It was empty plus we were off2 days and Jacob only missed 3 days...

Or the week after Thanksgiving....

We took my kids a Couple of days after labor day. The weather was good (hot) so we could use the pools. There were no crowds at all. Great time to go! We plan on pulling the kids each year for disney. My BFF went in april during the school break and was very disappointed bc of the crowds, she also spent a ton of money.

Re: Taking your child out of school for a week for Disney

I don't think this is the exact website I used but it is very similar. The site I looked at put the April dates ranked higher than the October dates. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with any.

http://yourfirstvisit.net/2011/09/19/2013-weeks-to-visit-walt-disney-world-ranked-in-order/

As for pulling kids out, I probably wouldn't do it when they are older but I think it is fine in 1st grade.

Re: Taking your child out of school for a week for Disney

We went a few years ago halloween week. It was great. Crowds were low (we were home b4 halloween) but we hit a crazy hot streak and it was 95+ degrees.

We went a year later Dec10-15...it was more crowded than I anticipated, and we hit a crazy cold spell, first day was great then it was as low as 30 degrees some nights.

Next time I am planning on taking DS out of school and going either March or April .

Re: Taking your child out of school for a week for Disney

I would not personally take my child out of school in Sept. I feel they have to adjust with all the other children and I would not want to take any time away.

I would choose April, the last week.

We just went the last week of April and the weather was phenomenal. Crowds were low. It was great. You could not have asked for better weather or crowd level. Just perfect. Aim for them for sure!

If you can't do April, choose October but know it will be fairly busy on certain days b/c of Mickeys Not So Scary Halloween Party. Also on those days, unless you buy special tix to get into the party, you will have to leave the park (MK) by 7pm.

We recently took DS out of school to go to Disney (he is in Kindergarten). We went the end of the March. The weather was great! It was 75 to 80 degrees everyday. It was crowded but manageable.

I used to work at Disney World and January is the best time to go. There is practically no waiting to get on the rides. But it does get chilly though.
