I have been very lucky to not have gained much and am literally all belly and lost weight in all my "problem" areas while pregnant. I hoping that stays the same and I just will need to focus on my belly. I'm going to try BF which I heard really helps to contract the uterus back down and drop some pounds. Once I'm cleared, I think I'm going to look into pilates because a few people I know did this after the baby and felt it was the only thing that really helped target that harder to get to lower ab muscles. Other than that, I don't think I'll be buying those support bands, but who knows. I guess I'll reassess after the baby is born

I have thought of this..i plan on going on weight watchers after DD is born. I'm really not comfortable with this huge weight gain. Need to get back into my size 2 clothing fast.

It is ALL I think about ... said while I stuff my face with a chai from Starbucks Chat Icon

But seriously - I've already begun planning (i.e. I'm joining Weight Watchers the day the baby turns 2 weeks old; I've selected a camp for my 2 older ones that I can walk to for pick up (wear the baby, push the double stroller); began looking into gyms with daycares - and I HATE the gym!).

I've even started pinning workouts and inspirational pictures in Pinterest Chat Icon

I've given myself until my birthday to get back to normal (not just weight - everything!), so it gives me almost 6 months to the day.

I am having a cesarean so a belly support garment is kind of out of the question for me - at least initially.

Re: loosing the baby weight/getting back into shape after baby

My current plan is to set a 12 month goal for myself. I was overweight before the pregnancy, and so I am trying to look at this as an opportunity to finally become healthy and stop the cycle of extreme dieting that I've done my whole life.

I'm due in May, so the goal I am setting for myself is to run the LI half marathon May 2013. I've only ever run a 5K before (and not very well), but I've always wanted to become a runner. I'm hoping that this longer-term goal will get me to break the habit of intense periods of exercise/dieting and then not for weeks at a time.

I had abdominal surgery right before I got PG, so by the time I give birth, it will be 11 months since I've been allowed to do any sort of physical activity but walking.

I am so ready!

Re: loosing the baby weight/getting back into shape after baby

well as BTDT.. i was NOT one of the lucky ones. i gained 35lbs pregnant which i didnt think was too bad, but i also started out about 10lbs heavier than id like. so lets call it 40lbs for arguments sake.

a week after i gave birth i was down 20. but nursing is tough and you feel as hormonal nursing and you do pregnant, well at least i did.. anyway 7m post partum i gained 10lbs back and was only 10lbs under my largest pregnancy weight (given i delivered at 33w so i didnt get as big as i would have if i was full term)...
i finally started going back to the gym and the 10lbs i gained is gone now. so now i have 20 more to go. my goal is her first birthday party on may 20th.. i think its unrealistic but id be happy losing another 10-15 by then!!

i always said i would go right back to the gym but i had a very complicated delivery and things happened and having a baby changes a lot... so needless to say i didnt go back until she was 7m. i guess all im trying to say is that no matter how much you gain, cut yourself some slack. it takes a while to get into a rythm when you become a mom (i can only speak for first time moms) and esp. if you are nursing you feel hormonally different than you did before. remember it takes 9 months to put the weight on, you should realistically give yourself at minimum a similar amount of timet o lose it!Chat Icon

I haven't gained too much this pregnancy, but I never really lost everything from DD 2 years ago Chat Icon I am going to go back to Weight Watchers about a month after the baby is born. In a weird way, I am kinda looking forward to losing the weight and getting myself back together.

I too have only run a 5k. I was jogging 3 times a week before getting pregnant but had to stop due to complications early on. I was cleared to exercise toward the end of the first trimester but I didn't go back to jogging. Iam actually looking forward to getting back into it. I see people jogging and I am almost jealous. I really want to do another 5k but i haven't set an acutal goal or deadline because I don't know what my exercise schedule will look like once the baby is here. But I am motivated. Good luck!

I plan on going to the gym 2 nights a week (7:30PM)after DH gets home and on the weekends. This should give me break from being home, relieve stress and get going on cardio. I lost weight for my wedding and did not even join WW ... this time, after a few months if my plan does not work I will look into WW.

Re: loosing the baby weight/getting back into shape after baby

I was 210 when I got pregnant with DD in March 2006. I was 250 the day I had her December 2006. After the first week or two I lost 20. However I was stuck at 230 for a long time and eventually I got down to 175 (around late 2009).

I put some weight back on, I was 187 when I got pregnant this time. I'm 6 weeks now and I'm 193 (I haven't gained any weight in a week or two).

My plan is not to go over 220 this time so that after I lose the initial 20 after giving birth I'll only be 13 pounds heavier than I was when I started.

I'll do what I did to lose the weight last time(if I don't BF): Keep my calories around 1,500 and use the eliptical for 45 minutes, 3 or 4 days a week. The weight came off slowly, but it came off.

Once I get down to 175 I'd like to start TTC again, lol. I'm a glutton for punishment. But it took us 4 1/2 years to get pregnant this time, so who knows how long it might take and I'm not getting any youngerChat Icon

ugh so far at 18 weeks i am up 16 lbs... so I would assume I will be at least double that by the time LO comes! I bought the 17 day diet book before i got pg so I think I will look into that at first just to get jump started... but in any case I will have to practice major portion control for sure!

ETA: I already walk on the treadmill so I will try to increase eventually back up to running

I've only gained 5lbs at 28 weeks but I never lost the 30 lbs I gained in 2010 from IF treatments plus I was already over weight before that. I need to loose 50-60 lbs and I'm determined to do it before this baby turns one. I'm going to join WW and start exercising. I want to be healthy for my girls.

Re: loosing the baby weight/getting back into shape after baby

Because I gained so much with DS (around 40 lbs), I've been very strict with watching what I eat now. So far at 16 weeks I'm up 3lbs, and hope to gainno more than 20. I started running a few times a week past summer and it helped to take the rest of the weight off, but I still have another 15-20 lbs from IVF meds to take off from DS over 2 years ago.

This time around I will start walking immediately, and running again as soon as I'm cleared from the doctor. I will be BFing again so I can't really diet, but I will continue to make healthier choices so it comes off quicker.

Re: loosing the baby weight/getting back into shape after baby

every time I stuff my face with something I think about how the heck I'm going to lose the 40+ lbs I packed on this pregnancy.

I had bought the Boppy maternity belt that also converts to postpartum so I'll see how that is, otherwise I'll buy another girdle type thing.

Walking everyday with baby and breastfeeding I'm hoping will do the trick until I can get back to the gymChat Icon

THIS! (Except for the size 2 part- I wish!!)

I've done weight watchers in the past and it works SO well.... in the past few weeks I have completely blown up and at first I was okay with it, but then I saw myself in a picture this weekend and was like "WTF!".

Re: loosing the baby weight/getting back into shape after baby

It's all i have thought about! Especially since I have always stressed my weight and last summer I was in the best shape of my life. I can't wait to go hard core at the gym again and do my spin classes!

I wanted so much to still be a gym rat during pregnancy, but my HR would go up to 150 just doing stretches, so it got me nervous. Now that it is nice out I am trying to walk an hr a day because I know I gained too much since I pretty much went from extremly active to a blob! Chat Icon

Since I am due in July, I plan to take the baby for walks every day until I can actually get to the gym and then I am going to slowly try to get back into my routine and eat healthier than I have been. Damn you mini eggs!!

Re: loosing the baby weight/getting back into shape after baby

I gained 45 lbs with DS, but lost it all by 6-8 weeks PP. I had severe swelling and probably put on at least 25 lbs in the 3rd trimester. I was down 31 lbs by 1 week PP. The only thing I did to lose the weight was EBF. I ended up gaining 8 lbs back towards the end of BFing. I was at my heaviest, but didn't really do anything about it. When DS was 18 months old, I finally started to get back into shape and diet. I lost 35 lbs and kept almost all of it off until I got pregnant again.

I hope to not gain as much this time around, but I seem to have gained a lot over the past month or so. I'll probably end up with another c-section, but I hope to start running again at some point during my maternity leave. I definitely want to get back to or under my pre-pregnancy weight.

BFing and once I am ready, I will start the ellyptical machine again. I'm 39 weeks and up 30 lbs, so I think it will be managable.
