I don't remember it hurting but I do remember using the squeeze bottle a lot, just in case.

Re: A bit off topic... Delivery question

Yes for a couple days I recall it burning/being slightly painful. Sometimes I even felt like I couldn't completely empty my bladder. Use the squeeze bottle, it makes it burn less. I also started drinking a lot of water and a little cranberry juice every day. A few weeks after delivery I had a "pulling" sensation whenever I peed, which wasn't painful...but it felt off. Turns out my stitches didn't dry up and they had to be removed.

My friend DID have a UTI after giving birth (from the catheter), they prescribed her an antibiotic. The only reason she knew something was wrong was because she was wetting herself completely and not feeling it Chat Icon

Re: A bit off topic... Delivery question

Right after I deliverd and the took out my epi and cathether I felt the urge to pee
I asked the nurse if I could go to the bathroom- she said yes as long as I felt I could walk after the epi. My epi had worn off before I pushed so I felt fine to walk.
She helped me to the bathroom and when I sat on the toilet I felt like I had to pee, but couldn't. It was almost like having a UTI. It didn't burn or hurt- I just physically could NOT pee.
I was freaking out a bit and the nurse said it's normal- that your bladder is still spasming from the birth and it also could be the residual effects of the epi and the numbing /
I sat for a bit, had my mom come in Chat Icon , and her and the nurse were splashing warm water on my azz (all dignity was already WAY gone at this point), running the tap, ANYTHING to get me to pee.
And after a bit it worked.
Not sure if that is what you meant but i just remember that experience as one of the things I was NOT expecting and one of the things nobody tells you about !

This was the worst part for me. I wanted the IV OUT and they wouldn't take it out until I peed in the bucket. I felt like I had to go, but couldn't. I used the bottle for weeks after delivery.

Re: A bit off topic... Delivery question

Immediately after delivery...I could not pee. The nurses kept bringng me to the bathroom trying to help me saying they could feel my bladder was full and I had to try. I was in tears. I just could NOT go. The epi had worn off but I couldn't pee. I thought I was getting a UTI as well. The nurses had to catheterize (sp?) me 2 more times and push on my bladder to get the urine out. Finally after a few hours I did start to go again, but it did burn for 1-2 days.

I swear that was one of the worst parts of the delivery that I was not expecting. Chat Icon

Re: A bit off topic... Delivery question

I had a feeling of pressure (like someone above said like pulling) too. I had it for 2 months it just went away for me 2 weeks ago. Dr said it was normal.

Re: A bit off topic... Delivery question

did you have a cath? i had a csection and it felt strange trying to pee after. it took a bit to actually be able to - I think I went in to pee and couldnt. went back to bed and then a few hours later, tried again and I had to sit there. it did feel funny for a few days but I think that is because I had the catheter.

yes, it stung for a few days. pretty sure it was from the catheter but the spray bottle and sitz bath were my best friends until the stinging subsided. Chat Icon

Re: A bit off topic... Delivery question

Yes - I remember that I would pee and immediately after (basically just as the last drop was dripping - lol) I would get this burning/stinging sensation. I had never had a UTI so I wasn't sure if it was that or not. I spoke with my OB over the phone and he said he really couldn't test me for a UTI bc of all the bleeding but he prescribed an antibiotic for it anyways bc apparently it is very common after delivery.

It burned I think, a little. That water bottle was my best friend. I had no trouble peeing though. I actually couldn't hold it at all for the first few weeks. I was cut allll the way though.

Re: A bit off topic... Delivery question

If more than a few days have passed since delivery and you are still having painful urination and dark urine, I'd call the dr. It does sound like it could be an infection.
