how did you introduce your 1 year old to peanuts? and when?
DS is now 1 and I keep thinking about this -- how do you try peanuts? and when (did you still wait after 1 year)?

my DS was 2 in october and we still have not tried peanuts. This will be a personal decision for you. my ped recommended I wait until he's 2.5. at that point ill start with peanut butter.

I gave DD peanut shrimp at about 10 months old. After that we started giving her PB&J. My ped told me not to hold back anything except for honey and since we don't have any allergies in the family we just went for it.

I'm in no rush because I figure- does she really NEED to eat peanut butter?
Peanuts themselves seem like a huge choking hazzard so I wouldln't be giving those.
And I am not a fan of peanut butter, so I feel like- what's the rush?

Our ped said no peanuts til age 2. DS is 22 months and still hasn't had any.
HOWEVER he has had other types of nuts that are in food we ate - like hazelnuts. Neither DH nor I eat peanut butter, so I'm in no rush to introduce him to it.

I gave the boys' peanut butter ritz crackers around 12mo. (Ped gave the okay.) Just a few to start with. No reaction. Tried again a week later. They finished the box. Have been eating it ever since.

Same...we waited until my oldest was 2 years, 2 months. I gave him half a peanut butter sandwich. I did it early in the day so I could watch him for a reaction.
I was skeptical & waited until 2 bc I had a reaction to shelled nuts at age 5. Never had an issue since then. We have yet to do shellfish.

they ate my sandwich... both kids were about 10-11 months old...
ped said the longer you hold out the better chance of having an allergy.

DS #1 and is 21 months old...we just started giving him peanut butter. We had given him Nutella though around 10 months....not intentiionally...we just didn't think about it.

That's what mine said too.
Ditto... and I thought that was what the latest research shows?
Anyhoo, I gave her a peanut butter and banana sandwich and had some Bendaryl nearby just in case

Interesting...
DS has already had fish and shellfish. Our ped said 1 year to the peanuts and I was assuming I would try with peanut butter too but I'm shocked by all the variety in the responses to this thread - how can there be this much disparity amongst peds on the issue???

It seems that there is a HUGE variety in Ped answers on most topics... there are so many factors that put together a Ped's advice.. their age, if they are a parent, if they are up on the latest research or a little more old school, etc. etc. It's so frustrating to compare with Mom's that go to different Peds.. but all of our kids are surviving, right?
