Newborn not pooping
My DS is one week old, hew was pooping in the hospital fine, we got home sunday since then he has not pooped, pediatriian said call if he doesn't go by Thursday. He passes gas, burps fine,eats and sleeps very good
Any idea what it may be?

It's very common. They have to figure out how to coordinate relaxing their anal sphincter and contracting their bowls in order to have a bowl movement. If he doesn't go within 24 hours of his last BM, call the pediatrician and they will most likely tell you to to use a rectal thermometer or half a children's suppository to stimulate BM. It can take a couple of weeks for them to figure this out. If his BM are little balls, that is constipation and that's not good.

My DD2 became very constipated by Similac Advanced. Sensitive treated her just fine though! When he does go, it may be fine or it may be very difficult for him to pass, with lots of crying and pushing.

Thanks so much! He is not showing any signs of constipation or gassiness at all but I will be calling the pediatrician tomm. Am.

is he EBF? all of the LCs i met with said that EBF babies can go up to 7 days without pooping and its not an issue. although i am not sure if its normal when they are that little.
