pets 'using' baby items....
i guess bc i dont have animals i dont really understand it.....but i let my cousin borrow a couple of my baby things. well she just posted a picture with her dog laying all over the activity mat/gym thng next to her baby!!! maybe im a germaphobe, but i think that is sooo unsanitary! not to be gross, but the whole dog bathroom situation grosses me out on carpets, let alone my baby stuff! and the dirty paws that i can only imagine where they have been!! ugh....guess im letting her KEEP my stuff, i would NEVER let my next child use these things now!!
am i over reacting on this one?? i know she has a dog, but i didnt think the thing would be using my stuff!!

My IL's bring their dog when they visit for a weekend. For some reason the dog automatically goes right to DS's playmat and lays on it. I grit my teeth while my IL's think it's the cutest thing.
I wiped it with a babywipe while they were there since I knew the dog was going to keep going to it (I didn't put the baby on it all weekend).
THen when they were packing to leave I unhooked the mat and told DH to put it in the laundry to wash. DH agrees, but my FIL said something like... "Please, I never heard of a baby getting sick from a dog."
I ignored the statement. That dog also licks it's own puke and is a mess.
After it was washed I laid the baby on it.
If you wash it I think it's fine.
My last dog also gravitated towards the playmat too. This was a couple of years ago when my toddler started to not use it anymore. I just wiped it down

We have a Chihuahua and when DS was a baby, and using that kind of stuff, we also had a Doberman. An old dirty doby. I love our dogs but I always would lay a quilt down on the floor then the play mat so even the bottom was not touching dog floor and it never stayed out. I actually exchanged a gift one that was complicated to fold and store for one that was easy to put away. The dogs did interact with DS a little with supervision and the chihuahua did go on the mat for a second to sniff him but I would not let him stay there. Also caught him once in the bouncy seat! Then I made sure I always put a stuffed animal in it so he stayed out.
We are in a split too so I also put the baby gates up long before we needed them just to keep the dogs off the upper floors.
I'm not grossed out by it, but I would not let our pets lay on a play mat. Totally understandable if you do not even have dogs. I would not let that happen if I borrowed an item. And if it did happen accidentally, I'd not photograph it, nor post it somewhere the dogless owner would see!

DS and our dog roll around on the floor and play together all the time. They love it. When we still had the play mat for DS, I never let our dog on it though. I wanted her to respect DS' things and know that it's not ok to step or lay on them. Even now, I don't let her step or lay on his fold out couch. On the floor/carpet? No problem and honestly, no way to avoid it. We clean our dog and she doesn't puke therefore doesn't eat puke, lol, but we still don't want her all over his stuff. She does get on our bed though so I'm not a germaphobe. Once you wash it, it's fine.

I don't know, but I think you are overreacting.
You knew she had a pet when you lend her these things - I think it's a little unrealistic to totally keep the dog off of them.

You knew she had a dog and lent it to her. It goes on the floor, dogs go on the floor...
It is washable, no? Wash it. Or toss it if it really upsets you that much.
if I were you, i'd pay attention to who I lend stuff to if you intend to use it again.

My dog is everywhere! If the baby is laying on the mat the dog is right next to her, It doesn't bother me. I just wash the mat. I vacuum and mop everyday so all of her stuff stays pretty clean. You may be overacting a bit, but If it bugs you make a mental note not to lend anything else to her.

even if you knew she had a dog, you didn't anticipate the dog using the items.....just the baby....plus, they are your items. She should take better care of them.
I do think it's disgusting. Fleas, going outside to poop and pee, and then laying on a baby item.
I have a cat and I won't let it anywhere near baby items. I try to prevent it as much as possible. Yes, cats are clean by nature, but she still goes into a litterbox, kicks around litter, and the sad fact is that animals don't wipe or shower daily.

Mine too!! And on top of him being everywhere, his hair is everywhere too!
He knows not to play with her toys and we are teaching her not to play with his toys.
When she is on the floor I will lay a blanket down and he is pretty good about not laying on the blanket but sometimes it happens...that's why I wash it every week (more frequently if the baby spits up on it).
IMO, if dogs skeeve you out and you knew your friend had a dog then you shouldn't have let her borrow your stuff. Dogs are part of the family and I am sure your friend wants her dog not to feel alienated because of the new baby.
ETA: If it were me and I borrowed someone's stuff I would try my hardest to not let my pets lay or play with the stuff but sometimes it does happen.

I agree. We have a dog but we made it a point not to let the dog near any of DD's things even before she was born and we were setting things up. We let the dog sniff her stuff but we would never let her lay on her things.

I have dogs but when my baby was that young I didnt let my dogs go in her stuff. I do now...and once she got older I didnt mind. But very young, no. However, I would not have lent anyone my stuff ever, pet or not, and if they had a pet I would def not be shocked if someone allowed their pet on it. That was a big risk to lend out stuff to people, b/c pets or not, you never know what is going to happen to the stuff. JMO

I have a dog and a cat and DS rolls all over the place with them. I don't mind. That is how I grew up so no biggie to me. Other people don't feel the same as me. But our pets are our family and I do not find them dirty.

As much as I try, its been impossible to quarantine our baby toys from our dog. Dog steals bib, we wash it. Dog lays on baby blanket, we wash it. Dog licks baby's face, we wash it . It cant be helped and im sure unless DC has a severe allergy, they will be fine.

 Total dog owners vs non-dog owners post.
I have a pet peeve about SHOES in my house. I make everyone take their shoes OFF (just thinking about what bacteria are spread by shoes grosses me out).
To that extent... dogs that walk with their paws from in to out stepping on surfaces that the kid may put in his mouth grosses me out too. I honestly know only one person who washes her dog's paws EVERYTIME the dog comes in from outside.
I used to own a dog... but he was kept in a specific area (not on beds, etc).
But your solution? Wash everything when it is returned & if it bothers you... don't lend it out.

The person I'm referring to has a maltese... and JUST had a baby girl... so you took me for a loop there She washes those doggie paws! So you will make 2 people!!!!!
The funniest thing is, I have to FIGHT with my MIL to get her to take off her shoes when she comes into my house. She literally thinks it's OK to let my kid play with her shoes.

I don't think you are overreacting. You lent out your things and expected her to take care of them. letting her dog all over it, esp. when you don't have one, is not taking care of it.
We have cats, and they are not allowed on he baby things. Baby isn't allowed to play with cat things, cats aren't allowed to play with baby things.Pretty simple.
They actually avoided the baby's things for a very long while, but have recently gotten bolder, like walking across his play mat... last night one of them was sitting IN the Boppy. It was cute but she wasn't allowed to stay there long.
Even my in laws who are cat CRAZY don;t let the cats in the pack n play, no matter hoe many times the cats try lol!
