In know two people off the top of my head who sit in their kitchen and watch tv. They both have very comfy tv rooms and bedrooms with tv, neither are close to fat lol, I would be a sumo wrestler if I did that

For all the towel issues -you would hate my house. The decorative ones hanging up DO NOT USE. They are just for decoration. I would be furious if someone used them.They are really embroidered and just for show. I have both pretty paper towels and a regular towel in a holder on the counter. Either of those are fine to use. I wash the towel after guests leave and if no guests are here it is washed at least weekly.

My IL's dining chairs all broke so up until 3 weeks ago, they were using our chairs (we lived upstairs) from our cheap ikea set. When we moved 3 weeks ago and took our chairs back, they took my SIL's old patio chairs to use. When I asked my MIL why she won't just buy a new table and chairs because they can get a cheap but decent set for less than $500 (which they can definitely afford), she said she doesn't see the need.

This thanksgiving i did not ask my guests to take their shoes off, but me and my DH always take our shoes off.

I did ask guests to wear rubber soled shoes, just because my issue is not with dirt but with wear and tear on my wood floors.

Its just us, and yes our floors never get dirty, and they are vacuumed and mopped once a week.

Sorry but I would find it very odd and actually rude if you invited me to a holiday at your home and then told me what kind of shoes I had to dress in so that you could avoid wear and tear on your floors.

The reason we are a shoes off house is for:
1. cleanliness - there is a lot of dirt, mud, gunk, poop, and any other bad stuff you stepped on during the day on the bottom of your shoes. If you sit on the floor or other people sit on your floor do you want your hands to touch what is on the ground outside? I feel like we are so much healthier by being a shoes off home. You still need to clean.

2. We have new carpets. I don't want the junk from shoes on our floors. We don't eat in rooms that have carpets.

3. Since everyone's shoes are near the front door (in storage bins) I never have to run around to find a pair of misplaced shoes. Ok never is a strong word, perhaps it is more like once a month or less.

Having a dishwasher and never, ever using it. What's the point? MIL does this, even when a lot of us are over eating, she does it all by hand and her dishwasher works and is fairly new.

Definitely weird!

And I thought it was an asian thing! My sister redid her kitchen recently and didnt bother putting in a dishwasher. My other sister used her dishwasher as extra storage or a drying rack!

At some point while growing up, I realized how strange the household was that I grew up in and then when I became an adult and moved out, I REALLY realized.

To name only a few...

they have a set of curtains for every season, based on color and thickness. btw, they are the same curtains, no joke from 50-60 years ago.

they have bars on all of the windows (i know this is an old school way houses were built in some areas but the strange thing is that they think its still totally normal and the fact that i dont have bars they consider strange!)

they dont just rinse, but wash all the dishes before they put them in the dishwasher.

bedrooms doors are never closed, like ever, or my mom would get mad.

windows are only open about 2 inches, hardly ever more unless its in the kitchen and then they are closed immediately after dinner.

salad only consists of lettuce and dressing, once in a great while, a tomato. nothing more ever.

AND the list goes on for pages

When people cover everything with plastic. My grandmother use to do this. Everything. the couch. lamps, tables. etc. you would sit on it in summer and stick to it. awful.

BTW, I am shoes off house too, but I wouldn't ask people to do it. especially at a party i would just clean after. I don't like the idea of walking in a strangers spit/snot/%hit and then tracing it back through my house. especially now that i have kids.

I know someone who puts the plastic on her white dining room chairs..... but.. they are in her kitchen.. her very non-fancy kitchen.. and... she leaves the packaging plastic on and only puts the covers on when that plastic tears so much that it can't protect her chairs anymore. And it has been YEARS! I love her dearly and I tell her this to her face. She just shrugs. Whateves.

OMG - I tutored in a house where people did that. They had a HUGE living room and a den and neither room had a TV. All 6 would sit at the kitchen table and watch TV as a family. So weird... get comfy people!

I also find the "rubber sole only" shoe request odd. What if someone doesn't own a pair of rubber soled shoes? Sorry to be rude but I don't think I would/could honor your request as the only rubber soled shoes I own are sneakers and fllip flops and neither are appropriate for a holiday dinner.

I do have a shoes off policty, but mainly for my close family that comes over. WHen we have parties or playdates then I don't ask guests to take their shoes off.
As far as the "rubber shoe" request... I never thought of it till we went to DH's Aunt's for a family dinner. They have a big family. She just re-did her downstairs with beautiful hardwood floors. We all loved it and know she must've spent a lot. Anyway, I heard that from a lot of the heels the women wore that the floors did get ruined. SHe's paying a lot to have them fixed and now has asked for next holiday party about rubber soles or shoes off. I do get it now.

My IL's store their pots and pans in the oven and then have to take them all out when they bake. When DH and I first lived together he would do this and we ruined a few pots because I would turn the oven on to preheat without even thinking that there would be something already in there!

I store all my baking sheets in my oven. I think it's smart.

I have a double oven though so I store it in my bottom oven. BUT - growing up my mom stored sheets in her single oven too. I guess I'm just used to it.

I know tons of people who store pots and pans in their ovens. It stemmed from living in small homes and now it's just customary for them.

I am a martian.

I store our good pots and pans in our oven, for 2 reasons. 1. Very limited on space and 2. Reduces scratching from being with all the other pots/pans. (I also put dish towels between each pan, to further reduce scratching) See, told you I was a nut.

I also, use our dishwasher for storage.

i know someone who keeps everything in its original packaging in the kitchen cabinets - like blenders, toasters, wine bottle openers etc. if you open their cabinets they have the original boxes for their blender from the 70's. never understood that!

we're not a shoe off household. my dh takes his shoes off when he comes home, but its for comfort not cleanliness
if i worried about stuff like that (imaginary dirt from outside), i'd go nuts.
im a firm believer that a little dirt never hurt anyone!

I find it strange when people change their decor for the holidays like the bathroom shower curtain and toilet cover and their bedroom sheets and comforter...im all for the decorations this just always has seemed so over the top for me i dont know maybe im just to lazy and thats why i find it strange lol

See, I'd do it all wrong. I'd use the decorative ones thinking you put them out especially for me to use. That's what I do in my house! So funny how people interpret things differently!
