Linea Nigra Old Wives tale?

anybody getting or have gotten their linea nigra on their belly??? If so, does it extend above your belly button or stay below it?

"Latin for ‘black line’, a linea nigra may appear on your belly during pregnancy (some women wont get it – doesn’t mean anything!). This is a purple/brownish line which extends down the middle of your belly to your pubic area, about 1cm in width. It’s known that hormones cause the linea nigra pigmentation, but it’s not known why it forms in the vertical line that it does.

The old wives tale is this – if you get a línea nigra and it runs from your pubic area to your belly button only, it’s a girl, and if it goes all the way up from your pubic area to the bottom-most part of you rib cage, then it’s a boy."


Mine is very faint now but definitely extends above my belly button. Haven't found out the sex yet but dying to know!

The ladies that have found out, was your linea nigra right?

I don't have one this pregnancy but last pregnancy I did...and it went all the way up from top to bottom and I had a girl.

I have one. VERY dark belly button down. But there is a faint one above my belly button. I am team green so we will see when he/she gets here if the tale is true!

Had one with last pregnancy that just went to belly button and it was a boy. This pregnancy so far its really light but starting to come out. It's to belly button again and it's another boy.

DH is fascinated by it though. He keeps asking "why do you get it?" even after i explain it's "but, WHYYY?" like a little kid

it was wrong for me. i had it above and below my belly button and had a girl.

Mine is darkest in my pubic area and ends at the belly button. It's really really light. I don't know if it will darken up or continue to rise? I'm 26 weeks and having a girl.

Its strange but I only got that line with my first pregnancy with DD, with my son and this baby never got it again.

Sooo not true!

Wih DD1- I had it from top to bottom. It finally went away about a month before I was pg with #2. It never came back at all. I'm having another girl.

I had one with my 1st pregnancy, with my DS. It went all the way up to my rib cage. So far with this pregnancy, with my I have no line at all & I'm 23 weeks today.

Mine goes up to my rib cage but I'm having a girl. I am also carrying all in front like most people carry boys but we saw the money shot on the sono and it's a girl.
