is anyone NOT washing baby clothes?
I definitely had no doubt in my mind that I was going to wash all of my new baby clothes. But a few family members were over after my shower and told me it isn't necessary. I told them they're crazy and I am definitely washing them! Is anyone else not washing the clothes?

Im washing the clothes and blankets but I was told I was crazy (in not so many words) for wanting to wash the rest of the baby stuff.. i.e. swing seats, covers etc.
I think my rule of thumb will be, anything "open" gets washed, anything in a box does not.

I always wash my own clothes and DH's clothes before wearing them so I will definitely do the same for the baby. I don't know if it's true but someone told me that there are chemicals in new clothing to sort of preserve the fabric. So just to be on the safe side, I wash everything.

We washed all of DS' clothes before he wore them. Their skin is just so sensitive as babies and there are so many chemicals in everything these days. I know some people don't and don't have issues, but some do. Better safe than sorry.
That said, we didn't wash ALLLLL his clothes at once. We washed all the basics and then as we needed more stuff, I washed them. This is so that we wouldn't end up washing clothes that we didn't end up needing.

I washed everything in Dreft, 1st I love the smell of it lol and I couldn't anything on her sensitive skin that wasn't washed, so many people touch the clothes at the stores!

I will be washing her clothes before she wears them for the first time. I am going to wash her clothes in Drift but not sure how long to do this. Whats your opinion? Baby will be cuddling with myself, dh and anyone else who holds her and we wont be using drift. Do you think it's really necessary to use Drift on all clothes everytime? Maybe just the first time like I said and her blankets?

You could or could not wash all of the clothes Its a personal decision, However, I WOULD NOT wash all of the clothes now. My twins are 10 weeks old and I am still returning items that I "thought" I would use. Lots of clothes, so my advice is leave the tags on and wash the day before you want to wear it. you will most likely be doing laundry every day so its not a big deal.

I used dreft on my kids baby clothes for the 1st year! My kids had very sensitve skin- and eczema.

I still to this day wash everything I put on my daughter who is two. I even wash our clothes before wearing them. When she was a newborn I washed a bunch of things and left some stuff unwashed since I heard they grow out of clothes so fast. I ended up returning a bunch of stuff since she was not in NB for very long.

Same here. Like a pp mentioned, you wind up doing laundry so often that it's not a big deal to throw in 1 or 2 new outfits. Both ds & I have eczema & sensitive skin so everything always gets washed first to remove the excess dyes & any allergens/irritants that they may have picked up in the store, warehouse and/or factory. IMO you never know who (or what) touched your clothes before they made it into your hands & for that they deserve a good wash!

Im far too paranoid to NOT was everything. I will keep some stuff new with tags on it...and if we end up wearing it, I will def. wash before letting LO wear it.

I washed his clothes before he wore them but not everything. Just on an as needed basis because I had so many friends that pre-washed EVERYTHING and then couldn't return/exchange things they didn't need or use.

Too many allergens left on them. You dont know what conditions they were made in or stored in.

In the beginning yes - everything was washed before it was worn. But speaking from experience, don't wash a ton of stuff before they are born in case things don't fit or the gender was not what you expected. I would wash a going home outfit, the bedding, and a couple of sleeper outfits. Once you are home from the hospital or even while you are in the hospital someone can wash the outfits that will fit. Neither of my kids wore newborn for more than a few weeks. DS wore it for the first week he was home and DD wore it for 2-3 weeks. I returned a lot of newborn size clothing.

I didn't wash them all last pregnancy. I only washed a few items. You have plenty of time to wash them when you get home. 
The reason you shouldn't wash them all is because 1- what if you have a bigger baby and then all the newborn size won't fit, 2- what if the sono was wrong about the sex (it does happen), and 3- you might find that you have too many onesies or pants and you can still return them.

DD is 4 and I still wash her clothes before she wears them. She has really sensitive skin...always has. JMO but remember that the clothes are transported from warehouses then to the stores...who knows how many people touch them and what conditions they come from.

You should always was clothes before wearing them for the first time. My family are immigrants. My grandma used to work in a garment factory in lower manhattan 20+ years ago. There were mice in the factory. So to get rid of the mice the factory owner got a cat. The cat would jump up on top of the garments. Sometimes they fall on the floor. Not to mention rodent feces. I am allergic to cats so I always wash everything. Granted this was over 20 years ago but I doubt it has changed much. It you think this was a sweat shop, it's not! They make mostly Calvin Klein and DKNY at the time. I just don't understand why you WOULDN'T was the clothes. So many people have touched, handled it, sneezed and cough on it.

i washed them and still do before she wears them (shes 27 months)!!!
In poland, they wash them and IRON each artcile before the baby is born.
my mom said i have to iron them i said YOU ARE CRAZYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
