POLL Does your OB want you to take DHA or not?
Curious what most OBs recommend. DHA or no DHA? Still waiting to see an OB so trying to go with the consensus.

ok well so I voted for "left it up to me"...
but then I realized that my OB is the one who gave me the sample and then prescription for the prenatals that I take...which has a plant based DHA pill!!!
LMAO so after voting away, my depleted brain cells kicked in and reminded me that if SHE is the one who prescribed it, then OBVI she wants me to take it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so change my vote to yes LOL

What would be the reasoning for not taking the DHA? AFAIK it is only beneficial but I could be wrong.

Read an old post on here that said someones OB said there aren't enough studies on its safety and benefits.

My doctor first gave me samples of Citranatal Assure which had 2 pills, one vitamin and one with a DHA pill.
He also gave me the script for that vitamin.
When I dropped it off at Walgreens they wanted over $60 for a month supply! And they told me my insurance required prior authorization on it.
So they called my doctor and he ended up switching it to a different vitamin that didn't have the DHA, and was covered in whole by my insurance.
I asked him if it wasn't as good since it didn't have the DHA, and he said it is fine, that DHA is a new thing but that many women have had healthy pregnancies without taking the DHA supplements (as I did in '05 with my DD) and he basically told me that if I wanted to take an OTC DHA supplement it's fine, but he didn't see it as 100% necessary!

my RX prenatal consists of a packet of 2 pills -one vitamin and one DHA gel.
why would you not take dha

With my first pregnancy she never mentioned it.
With this one, she mentioned that I should start taking DHA in the second trimester.

Same for me.
I voted "left it up to me" because when I was in the throws of m/s - which for me was always at night time - sometimes swallowing just 1 of those pills was a chore enough. I wouldn't always take the DHA. When I mentioned it to the OB, he said as long as I was getting just the prenatal down, that was good enough. He was never really clear one way or another.
