Baby Showers - sort of TTC related
What do you think about women setting up registries for second babies?
A daughter of a friend of mine has a son that just turned one and she is about 6 months pregnant right now (she works fast) she announced on Facebook how she was setting up the registry for baby #2, I commented on how I didn't think people did registries for 2nd babies and all of her friends ganged up on me and said that every baby deserves a registry (of course they are all in there early 20's if that makes any difference - and maybe it does). I stand by my opinion that it's tacky especially since she JUST had a baby and she is having another boy this time. Am I alone on this?

Re: Baby Showers - sort of TTC related
I personally think its fine. My SIL had a baby (21 years after her first! ) and she set up a registry and received presents. I understand your point but I dont think its a big deal.
ETA: Sorry I must of read the post fast because I didnt read the part were she already had a one year old and is 6mths pregnant again. Yes, that is def. tacky then. I can understand if the children are a few years apart but cmon, its like she just gave birth and now shes pregnant again.

I agree its tacky especially when the kids are that close in age. I just went to a shower for someone who was having her third but there was a 6 year difference between the new baby and her other son. Now that I can understand. One shower is enough, you shouldn't need any of the big baby items again, and the small stuff people may give you gifts, if not you should buy it yourself.

i agree, i think its kind of tacky. However, there are some people like close family members and friends who are going to buy something regardless..so maybe if you need specific things you can set one up, but i wouldn't tell anyone i had it unless they specfically asked.

people will do what they want to do. You dont have to participate if you dont want but if you need ideas on what she needs you can always look up her registry. If her friends and family want to throw another shower then so be it just a lil tacky. I had a b-shower for my 2nd but my kids are 6yrs apart and different fathers (families).

Re: Baby Showers - sort of TTC related
I totally would understand IF she was having kids years apart, or a different gender or what have you. That is not the case...she JUST had a boy a year ago and will be having another Boy this time around AND she is announcing the registry on Facebook. I guess perhaps I am just annoyed and jealous that she can have two kids while I am struggling to have one, and I am looking for something to B!tch about. *sigh*

i think its a combo of having the shower and ANNOUNCING it on FB! that's SOO tacky!!!! I dont really have a problem with her setting up a few things on a registry and letting her family spread the word that there is one if someone asks. Thats like DH's friend who sent us an invite for an engagement party (that's he's throwing for himself) and put his registry info on it. It takes 2 seconds to google etiquette.

Yea well - to me it comes down to today's generation. She is 22 years old and manners and etiquette seem to have been lost on her and her friends.

Re: Baby Showers - sort of TTC related
i would actually find it helpful that someone set up a registry for the second baby, im still going to buy the person a gift so i would rather get something that i know they need/want.
i dont think showers are necessary when babies are so close in age.

Re: Baby Showers - sort of TTC related
It's not tacky at all. I set mine up to keep track of what I needed for #2 and my friends/family found it helpful to get me what I actually needed. They were only 18 months apart but I still didn't have everything.
I don't really get the whole complaining about it being tacky. If you don't like it, don't buy her anything. If you don't like the idea of a 2nd shower/sprinkle, don't go. There's no need to make the mommy-to-be feel bad.

Re: Baby Showers - sort of TTC related
considering she just had a baby a year ago; i think it is kind of tacky to start another registry. She should be able to use all the things from the 1st baby. I went to a "sprinkle" for a 3rd son. Her 1st was 11; 2nd was 2; she did a very small registry; and the shower/sprinkle was on a much smaller scale then her 2nd sons shower. It was really more to just get all the friends together; sit around talk; play games. Wasn't as much about the gifts.

I think it's tacky. I have a 21 month old and plan to use all the same baby gear for my next DC. Why wouldn't I? It's still brand new.

I guess this is a good question to ask. I never realized that you could just set up a registry for more of a wishlist and not really for something like a shower. I assumed as she was setting up a registry and announcing it that she was expecting for people to purchase her things at an event like a shower. Perhaps I am wrong on that.

Re: Baby Showers - sort of TTC related
My cousins wife had a sprinkle for their 2nd child after having a baby shower last year (the kids are 18 months apart). IMO I am not a fan, I just brought you a pink pnp last year and now you need a blue one? BUT I attended because I love them. Not really my cup of tea.

Same here. No need to spend on another gift, but I love picking up little things for the baby.

i think it is cultural. i've been to many baby showers for 2nd and 3rd babies!! LOL - and especially if its for someone close to me i dont mind buying something from a registry.
it is kinda tacky though to have a baby registry a year after you just had one...unless the baby is a different gender
