Re: C/S - stitches or staples

I had staples. I'm not sure why they use one over another. I had an emergency c/s after a long labor. I remember the doctors said in the operating room they had a very hard time sewing me back up. I wasn't expecting a clean scar. My scar is pretty noticeable. I had no issue with the staples.they took it out the morning I left thr hospital and put tape over the incision. Other than the scar I healed very nicely with the staples.

Some do stitches, some do staples.

If you have a Dr who does bad stitches, they heal MUCH worse than staples. It's skill dependent: SO... just let them do what they usually do.

Re: C/S - stitches or staples

had stitches. didn't know/ask.

they were find. i heal pretty quickly so i had no issues with them. the steri-tape on top was annoying though. i always felt like i was pulling on it and my undies kept on getting stuck and didn't sit right because of it.

I think I had disolvable stiches both inside & out. I know that I only had tape on the outside that I was given the ok to take off after my 2 week appointment. You can barely see my scar, so I'm happy.

Dissolvable stiches inside, staples out. The staples were removed right before I left the hospital. My scar is long but it looks great and had no issues healing.

Neither, I had glue that comes off after a few weeks and then around 4 weeks OB told me to start getting the rest of it off, worked out well, never had an issue with it.

I had glue too and no problems with incision or healing - very hard to see...hopefully it will go as smoothly for #3

I had stitches with all three. But with #3, I had two staples on each end of my incision as well. I think I had a decent amount of scar tissue from the previous c/s's, and my doctor wanted to make sure it would hold Chat Icon Bu they told me I had minimum scar tissue and could go for a fourth, so thats good!

The staples did not hurt one bit - even coming out!

Re: C/S - stitches or staples

I had staples and I had a C where they had to put me to sleep. Had them removed a week later.
the incision area hasn't ever really given me any pain... it's the area above that (where they work internally) that gave me the real pains. Actually I originally thought the area I was experiencing the most pain was where the incision was, and much to my surprise it wasn't at all. I didn't read up on the birth part so I didn't know what to expect at all and didn't even know where you are cut. My incision area is actually pretty numb to the touch.
In the days leading up to the appt where the staples were coming out they started to irritate me... but it really wasn't bad at all.
My scar is healing really really well... and I've had NO problems at all with it so far. I had the c 3 weeks ago.

Just had a dr appt today for him to look at it and he said it's healing really well and my scar looks like it's going to end up being really small, people won't even be able to see it or tell. The healing did look great to me as well when I checked it out this morning!!

I wonder why they do one over the other.

I was SHOCKED that they didn't hurt at all coming out!! i figured for sure it would hurt!!! I asked the dr "is this going to hurt" because I'm such a weeny with dr stuff... and he said "you tell me" as he pulled one out, then said "did that hurt?". Not even a little bit!!! Chat Icon

I had staples. I hated them, they were the only part of the C/S recovery that bothered me, and once I got them out I felt so much better.

Next time Im asking for stiches!!!

Re: C/S - stitches or staples

1st time I had stiches, either they were disolvable or I just dont remember them coming out.

Oh wait, maybe he took them out in the office. I DK..lol

Second time I had staples. A bit worse coming out, a bit pinchy....but nothing really different. Although my incision did open with my second.

Re: C/S - stitches or staples

With my first, it was an emergency c/s and I ended up with staples. Had them taken out about a week later and it was awful Chat Icon

My next 2 were scheduled c/s and I begged them to not put me through that torture again. The removal process was very painful and the recovery was not very pleasant feeling either. Got the tape after that and it was 1,000 times better. With my3rd child, some of my skin came off when they removed the tape which became infected but it was nothing compared to the staples

Re: C/S - stitches or staples

i had dissovable stitches. i didnt request them but im wondering if my SIL (who is a labor and delivery nurse where i delivered and was there) requested them because the other girls in my reocvery room all had staples for their c sections.

my recovery was fast and great. i had a hard time getting up in th ehospital but a day after i was home, i was out food shopping and other stuff. my doctor cleared me of all restrictions at my 2 week pp appt.

Staples -- they were removed the day I was leaving the hospital. Didn't hurt or feel uncomfortable at all.
