Re: which bottles
I had registered for Medela bottles, thinking that I would be pumping and could use them for pumping and storage.
That didn't work out.
I started with playtex drop-ins because they are slow-flow and wide neck bottles and the LC recommended them for trying to switch between boob and bottle. I then went to playtex ventaires wide-neck which were also boob-like in shape and we used the slow-flow nipples. Those worked great while I was still trying to nurse because she switched back and forth like a champ. When I never got a milk supply after 3 weeks and the LC said to switch to the bottle we just kept using them.
She liked them until suddenly around 8 weeks old when she flipped out one day while feeding, screaming bloody murder (which DD never does -- she's a super calm baby) and I happened to have a set of Dr. Brown's standard-neck bottles on hand I had bought for a friend but she didn't need. I tried the Dr. Brown's and DD loved it. At that point, we were ready for the level 2 nipples, which I got and we never looked back. Now at 6 months old, we use the Dr. Brown's bottles and just switched up to level 3 nipples.
They're a bit of a pain with all the parts to clean, but I have 9 bottles (8 oz bottles) and pretty much wash them 2 or 3 times a day and it's really not so bad. DD has NEVER had any spitting-up or gas problems at all with them (which she did slightly with the playtex ones) and we strictly FF now.
So, basically, I'm saying you can start out with one type but you're probably going to try a bunch until you figure out what works for you. I also had tried The First Years breastflow when we first had to use the bottle. But I love the Dr. Browns the best of all the ones we've tried.
Maybe register for a few sampler or starter packs and try them one at a time so if one works immediately, you can return the rest?

Re: which bottles
Avent. Just because they got a good rating in the baby bargains book. I was going to go with Dr.Brown's because they are supposed to be good but my friend said they have so many pieces & it was annoying. I keep hearing people say not to get too many because you don't know what kind the baby will like but I just thought they use whatever you get so I don't really know much about these things - guess I'll learn!

Re: which bottles
I registered for the Avent and DD wasn't taking to them. Then I tried the old school Even Flow ones and those didn't work either. I finally caved and got the Dr. Brown's and she is doing fine with them. The pieces aren't so bad. I thought it would be worse that's why I stayed away from them. It was just trial and error with me.

Re: which bottles
I got the Evenflo glass because I want to use glass for a couple months. I will see how she takes to them since I will be breastfeeding.

Re: which bottles
I registered for the born free but not a lot of them. I'll see how she does and then buy more if needed or switch brands. My co-worker told me they're great.

Re: which bottles
Dr Browns bottles. The sales person said that is the best seller and least returned. Her two kids loved them. We'll see.

Re: which bottles
born free. we tried Dr Browns and hated them, Born Free was great from day 1. DO NOT buy Dr browns if you don't have a dishwasher - way too many parts!

Re: which bottles
DS#1 and 2 used avent. The whole BPA scare came out when DS#2 was about 9 months. BRU let us return the used avent bottles in for store credit. I bought Born Free with the credit. They are almost identical to Avent...and Avent is BPA free now.
I still have the Born free bottles, so i will use those with new nipples.

Re: which bottles
I use Avent and Born Free glass bottles. DS is fine with both kinds. I kind of prefer the glass, but the Avent are nice for when we go out.

Re: which bottles
Think Baby, love them!! Have had no leaks, no colic, she easily took to them and still can go back and forth with them and the breast.
Tried Born Free 1 day, a disaster, so I'm sticking with Think Baby.
ETA: I originally picked them due to the fact that they have none of the potentially harmful chemicals in them.

Re: which bottles
You have to be really careful with that. I woudln't really register for anything, honestly. People will give you gift cards and you can buy bottles with those.
The reason being, your DC is going to take whatever bottle they feel like it! So if you register for Avent, thay may not like it and you end up with a ton of bottles you can't use. I'd register for a starter kit of each of the biggies, Avent, Dr. Brown's, Drop-Ins, etc. and see which one works best for you and then save your gift cards to buy them. Probably your best bet.
PS -- Same thing with binkies! DS went through several different kinds before he settled on the MAM.
