weird name situation

okay what should i do?

there is a girl's name I loved even before I was pregnant and up until about 14 weeks I knew I was going to use that name if we had a girl. Then I go to my BILs party and his friend/neighbor is there with their daughter with the same name. After that day, it has really bothered me and I have not wanted to use that name.

I have been going back and forth with all these other names, but can't decide bc I just keep thinking about that original name. I know it is stupid to be this bothered bc I won't see these people that often....only when BIL has ppl over, but for some reason I can't get passed it. I feel like it will be weird for when we are there for 2 little girls with the same name and I also don't want ppl to think I copied which I didn't...but no one knew I loved the name.

Please tell me if I am being a big idiot and should use the name or if I should just try to find something else.

If you love the name you should use it. Unless it's an outlandishly unique name, she will run into someone at some point that will have the same name as her. I wouldn't let this deter you from choosing a name that you love.

use the name you love! You'll hardly see them! When it comes up say you have always loved the name - they will believe what they want- so what!? they are just your in laws' neighbors!! Have you ever met your bil's neighbors before or was that the first time? (you didn't realize the same name before this time visiting or it didn't bother you until now?)

I honestly think the connection between your little girl and your BIL's neighbor's daughter is not close at all and you should go ahead and use the name.

People move... things change. This isn't your BILs child. I think you should use it.

I would use the name. You love it and you hardly see them. End of story. Don't make yourself crazy picking other names if you had your heart set on that one already.

I gave my daughter the same name that a college friend had just used for her baby. I had always wanted the name and we rarely see one another so I didn't care if people thought it was odd. If you love the name definitely go for it.

OMG, don't worry about that. You will end up naming your kid Curtain or something if you think about all the people that would have the same name as your kid. Don't worry, just name it. Its not like its your sister's kid or something (like we did with DH's sister, both boys named Christopher - ) My inlaws have 2 grandsons named Christopher. Ask me how much I care.

I would use the name. It's not like it's your BIL's DD name, or a close friend of yours!

You always loved the name, so stick with it! No worries :)

definitely use the name!!! but I totally understand where you are coming from. We need 1 more boy name and i just found out that the one I was considering is my cousins best friends son's name. I know it is far removed, but we would end up at some of the same family events.

If it was family I would say maybe you should not. For example we love a name that my 2nd cousins son has. We MIGHT still use it as we do not see them all time or live near them but since he has it we are on the fence. A friend of a friend? that is too far removed to NOT use it IMO

I would totally use the name. Who cares if twice a year there are 2 kids running around with the same name? It happens all the time!

Would you not marry a guy named Joe if your BFF's husband was also Joe? Would you not befriend someone b/c the had the same name as you? Of course not.

oh kell use it!!! i'm sure it's a beautiful name, and at the end of the day, there will always be someone else with the same name you choose..so why not make it a name you love??

I have a lot of issues using names other people have used as well..

But in this case, for my silly and complete nonsenical "rules", it's far enough removed for you to use the name. If it were YOUR friend, or your niece (BIL's child), I'd say no....but a friend of a family member? Nope, use the name you love!!

thanks girls. i know i am being crazy....it was the first time I met them and I won't see them often so I know it shouldn't bother me. I am just like driving myself insane with this naming thing. I appreciate you all talking some sense into me

it was the first time you've met them?! :) You may really never even see them again! I meet people all the time I never see again, including neighbors, we might wave but we're not always doing dinner, and when/if you do, if you want you can even act surprised by the same name like you forgot, "oh thats right, your daughter is ..... too! look at that! "
