Wife in hospital

I'll try to give you all the condensed version of this story. My wife had a UTI and was given a sulphur antibiotic. Took it for one day and the next morning she was vomiting. Went to the hospital and was given an IV. She was released and went home and then began vomiting again. She was readmitted to the hospital later that night. The doctor didnt believe it could have been the antibiotic, but one of the allergic side effects is vomiting so I dont know why he would think it was something else. Anyhow, my wife has elevated blood pressure mostly in the 130s and low 140s over 80 -90. She is 27 weeks. We are hoping and praying this is not pre-eclampsia. The doctor did a 24 hour urine sample which concluded around 6 this morning. I dont know when we will have the results of this sample. The OB just told my wife that he wants her to stay in the hospital for another 24 hours and do another 24 hour urine sample to find out why her pressure is elevated. She hasnt taken her prenatals the last couple of days and we are concerned that the baby is not getting the proper nourishment. Please keep us in your prayers and thoughts. Thank you.

Wow! She is definitely in my prayers! And so are you...

I hear that pre-natals are more for the mom than the baby, so I would say don't worry about that so much. But maybe you can ask the doc is they can give any pre-natal type supplements through an i.v.?

Please keep us posted. God bless!!! Chat Icon

Thanks for your prayers! Just got off the phone with my wife and she is finally eating some real food. The nurse said that they are going to do more blood work this afternoon. I'll mention the iv pre-natal when I get to the hospital. I'm hoping that if its the worse case scenario of pre-eclampsia that the baby wont have to be delivered too soon since the little one is only 27 weeks old. We're hoping the baby can stay inside mom for as long as possible.

i was put in the hospital at 32w4d after my 24 hour urine came back high for proteins. they did a sono that day and found low amniotic fluid and that the baby was measuring between 30-31w. they were hoping to keep me there for a few weeks until i delivered, but i developed HELLP syndrome (a preeclampsia complication) and ended up having a c-section at 33w1d. had i not developed HELLP i would've stayed in the hospital until i delivered either way. i Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon that your wife doesn't have to deliver at 27w. my Chat Icon has been in the NICU since she was born on 5/14 weighing 3lbs 8oz. there was another baby there that was born o 4/25 at 28w and he went home this week. FM me if you have any questions about preeclampsia. good luck!!!

Re: Wife in hospital

Thanks to all you wonderful ladies for your prayers and thoughts! Its been a very difficult and scary last few days. Here's the latest. Its official that my wife has pre-eclampsia. Her blood pressure remains elevated and she has protein in her urine. Her liver is slightly inflamed. No head aches, blurred vision and very little swelling. No vomiting since last Friday. She will be on bed rest at the hospital for the duration of the pregnancy. Dr. said that he is optimistic about getting to 28 weeks and thinks we have a chance to get to 32. I dont know what he is basing these estimates on. The baby's growth has slowed drastically so I dont know what the benefit of keeping the baby in the uterus is at this point. Maybe someone can shed some light on this. My wife was given a steroid for the baby's lungs today. The baby is very active and has a very strong heart rate and appears healthy besides being small. The one good thing is that the NICU at our hospital, Valley Hospital, is suppose to be among the best in NJ. I would appreciate any advice from those who have had pre-eclampsia and a preemie. Thank again to everyone for their continued prayers and support!
