Constipation
What do you ladies do when you're constipated? You're not suppose to take stool softeners right?

Re: Constipation
u can take suppositories.
i try to take benefiber or buy foods enriched in fiber to help, activia, etc. unfortunately it has not worked for me like it works for others, i was already having issues before i got pregnant. everything i just mentioned though has worked for friends of mine that went through it.

Re: Constipation
Ditto on the colace. Stool softeners are ok but no laxatives. Good luck I have the same problem to the extreme!

Re: Constipation
Try to drink a lot of water, and eat fiber filled food and fruit and veggies. My prenatal also has a stool softener in it which helps a bit. I was way more constipated with DS vs this one but I still get it here and there.
I also read somewhere to do this and it helps. Get a stool or something elevated to put your feet on while you are sitting on the bowl (weird, I know but when you are desperate you will try anything). YOu want your knees almost level with your body. It helps me when I am trying to go. It is worth a shot.

Re: Constipation
Only certain stool softness are ok. I took stool softener and metamusal or milk of magnesia every night for the first trimester. It didn't help but I didn't want to know what it was like without it. And it does go away in the 2 nd trimester.

I drink Plum juice. Tastes much better than prune but helps keep things moving.

Me, too! I think it's REALLY good. I mix it with water each day.
The other key is making sure you drink a LOT of water. I drank a TON for bloodwork one time and found I finally was able to go immediately after drinking water. Almost TOO immediatlely! lol.
And my pre-natal has stool softener in it... and I take one colace every night with my vitamins.
I had constipation bad in the beginning, but all of the above seems to be helping me.
Good luck!

Re: Constipation
I don't mean to sound gross but my fix to my constipation is cabbage or lots of beans!! It makes me go quite frequent. If you like cabbage or beans (doesn't have to be together), you can try it. I usually just sautee the cabbage with some garlic, EVOO, salt and a little bit of chicken stock. For the beans, I usually make beef stew with it.

Re: Constipation
I take 1 fiber pill every day with my prenatal. At 39 weeks, I've thankfully never had a problem.

Re: Constipation
Stool softeners like colace is definitely OK, and some laxatives might be )check with your doctor obviously) because I know people that have taken miralax.
And if you don't like prune juice try the dried prunes (but that plum juice does sound yummy too!).
