Spinoff to Taxes

How do you pay? Do you roll them into your monthly mortgage payment or can you pay a certain amount quarterly each year? I would rather not roll them into my monthly payment Chat Icon

most mortgages require them to be rolled into your monthly payment. This way they are sure they are being paid.

Re: Spinoff to Taxes

We roll them into monthly mortgage payments. Our taxes were just reassessed and went up, therefore our monthly mortgage payment went up.

Re: Spinoff to Taxes

I pay them directly to the town twice a year.

I used to have them escrowed in my mortgage for my last house. Hated it.

Re: Spinoff to Taxes

We pay them directly to the town twice a year as well - property taxes in Jan and school taxes in Sept.

We are good savers and at the time we closed, we had to put a lot of money into our escrow account, plus add a lot of money to it each month so it didn't make sense to us.

We used to pay them twice a year, but now we have it rolled in to our mortgage. I find it more manageable.

Re: Spinoff to Taxes

We pay them directly now.

When we closed on our house 5 years ago we originally rolled them into our mortgage but our mortgage company forget to collect for and pay our school taxes so we got slammed with late fees Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon As soon as that happened I took them out of escrow and we pay them ourselves!

Re: Spinoff to Taxes

We pay them ourselves 2 x's a year. I didn't want to give the bank my money to put in escrow so I keep my own escrow in a long-term savings account and add to each month for the payment. This way I get the interest, not the bank.

Re: Spinoff to Taxes

We pay directly. I save the money each month and keep in a money market. If tax amount changes I want to know right away not wait for escrow to catch up.

I roll my taxes/insurance into the mortgage payment for an escrow account, but I earn the interest (not the bank) and I get a tax form for the interest (just like the one from my bank).

For almost 10 yrs they've been rolled into our monthly mortgage payment. We are just about to close on our refinance and will pay the town directly twice a year.
