Caffeine

Ok, so I know caffeine is bad during pregnancy but can we drink small amounts? I have no problem giving up coffee but when it comes to soda and sweets its a bit harder. Ive been doing pretty good but is it ok to drink small amounts of soda?

Re: Caffeine

My doctor told me no caffeine. Some girls on here say their Dr.'s said it was okay in moderation.

I was never really a big coffee drinker before. Caffeine speeds up the heartrate which speeds up the baby's hr too. I just stay away from it all together.

Re: Caffeine

My OB said in moderation. And all the reading I've done on it says the same. I'm like you and found it very hard to give up soda and chocolate all together. I cut out coffee. I normally save my glass of soda or ice tea for dinner and then I bought a tremdous bag of hershey kisses. I grab about 4-5 of them as I'm watching TV at night (the time I crave chocolate the most) and I found I can get thru most days comfortably.

Re: Caffeine

i have decaf coffee which should only contain between 2-4 mgs of caffeine. studies show that pregnant women can drink no more than 200 mgs a day without any significant risk to them or baby. once in a blue i'll have a sip of my hubby's half and half lemonade / iced tea...but thats about as far as i go with caffeine

"The March of Dimes recommends that women who are pregnant or trying to become pregnant consume no more than 200 milligrams (mg) of caffeine per day. This is the amount of caffeine in about one 12-ounce cup of coffee."

Re: Caffeine

also, remember...Sprite, sierra mist and 7up are all non caffeinated sodas...so maybe try those as options if its carbonation you crave.

Also root beer (most brands), cream soda, grape soda, fresca, orange soda, and there's always caffeine free coke!

I was told it was ok to have either one cup of coffee a day or 2 cans of soda. There was no way I could function without some caffeine.. Everything is ok in moderation IMO...

Re: Caffeine

My dr told me it is okay to have one or two cups of coffee a day. A soda here or there.

I usually have a cup or 1/2 a cup in the morning, a diet soda a cple times a week.

So it is okay in moderation, but of course do what you are comfortable with Chat Icon

Re: Caffeine

Everything in moderation, its very rare I see a dr say no to caffeine, its just every dr says a different amount.

I drink one soda a day with lunch, I need the caffeine to get me through the day. I was a hige soda drinker before I got pregnant so this is a lot less, and I don't drink coffee at all because I don't like it. I don't see it as much different.
