Driving long distances?
Is it bad?
I'm 27 weeks & DH has his first vacation the 2nd week in May and we were thinking of going to Boston for a few days.
It's a 4 1/2-5 hour drive though.
Is it bad to be in a sitting position in a car for so long when i'm 27 weeks?
HELP!
Thanks

Re: Driving long distances?
My guess is you will be stopping several times to use the bathroom along the way. At least that's how it would be for me!!
I'd take those bathroom breaks as an opportunity to stretch your legs.. walk around a little.
Actually, if it were me, we'd never get to Boston because we would be stopping for the bathroom every half hour!!

Re: Driving long distances?
I just drove to MD last week, which w/ weather and traffic took 6 hours. I stopped every 2 hours. On the way home, I couldn't stop due to traffic for a while and I did get a leg cramp and back ache, but I was fine once I was out of the car.

Re: Driving long distances?
it really depends on the comfort of the car seat... I have been getting VERY carsick in cars (not puking, but gagging and queasy for hours afterwards) although it's better in the front seat. Also, I now get backaches from sitting in an uncomfortable seat. We were 3 in the backseat of my parents car for a 2 hour drive and it was very uncomfortable and my back hurt for days afterwards. I'm actually more comfortable on trains than in cars and if I was you I would still go, but would take the high-speed train with a bathroom on board.
However, other people are fine with the driving...

Re: Driving long distances?
Crashing... we drove from FL to NY and back when I was 29/30 weeks pregnant (21 hours each way). We stopped often to walk/stretch/pee and I made sure to move my legs/ankles while sitting in the car. It was fine!

Re: Driving long distances?
I just did Boston and back in one day last week...it was no problem (I was 21 weeks) I did stop a few times to stretch.
When I was pregnant with #1 we moved from San Diego to NY and drove 12+ hour days. I was 27 weeks and fine. I was surprised how easy it was. It may have been b/c I had more leg room in the rental truck? I really only stopped when we needed gas.

Re: Driving long distances?
Just get our every hour to 90 minutes (you'll probably have to pee anyway). I took a 5 hour road trip at 32 weeks and was totally fine.

Re: Driving long distances?
Im going to DC this weekend at 28 weeks (4-5 hours depending on traffic) and I know I am going to have to stop every hour at least between having to pee and DD needing to get out and run around. I did the same when pregnant with DD and it gets uncomfortable but not unbearable as long as you do make sure to take those breaks.
