Annoyed with ignorant people
We're naming  Marina, and the way some people are reacting, you would think that we're naming her Xena Warrior Princess or something. I know it's a different name, but it's not different in the sense that it's one of those uber-trendy names that everyone's using right now, but more that it's actually a traditional ethnic Greek and Italian name that's very common over there, but not so much in America. And it just frustrates me when I tell people and they go "oh....that's....different". And don't make the leap that it's actually a name, not that we arbitrarily decided to name our daughter after a boat yard. 
Vent over...just had quite a few people flip the tude on me this week about it, and it's annoying me.

Ugh I hate people's comments about names. I know 2 Greek women named Marina, I think it's beautiful. We are considering Rex for a boy, and my aunt told me it was a dog's name. My mom's dog is named Maya, that does not make it a dog's name.

What? Weird. I grew up in Brooklyn and knew several Marinas growing up. Mostly Russians - it must be a popular name there. Anyway, it's a very pretty, feminine name; easy to pronounce and familiar-sounding but not too popular - I think it's great.

My mom has a friend at work named Marina that she talks about all the time and the name always makes me smile. I think its beautiful!!!! Stick with it

The meaning is part of our reasoning. My dad's name is Don, which also means king. I like that it is a strong name, and DH thinks it sounds like a tough guy's guy. I'm a teacher, and looking for something different, but for boys I think different is hard b/c I don't want it to be weak or weird. I knew one Rex growing up, and of course Rex Ryan plus Rex Grossman is a Redskins player.

people stink, you could have the most common name and people would comment like that... we have people comment on Logan all the time and we are like whatever, he isn't your kid and you dont need to comment... next pregnany I think we r gonna keep it to our selves.

Just ignore everyone who would dare say something. I am pretty sure we are going with a kind of out there Irish name and I really dont care at all what people think.

I love the name. keep it and ignore those people.
I can so tell when people don't like my girl's name. But really for every one person who doesn't like it.. there's a few that love it. And the names they throw out aren't any better anyway. Haha.
I love that Marina isn't a popular name. That's the direction we tried to go in as well. I prefer the non popular names.

Hahaha. We named DD Rivka. We usually hear "wait, what is it?" followed by a "oh!"  . Then, a few minutes later, everyone always think it over and then express how much they love the name. Some names just take a little bit to get used to because they are different than the norm. Marina is a beaautiful name, be proud of what you chose!

This is why we haven't told anyone our possible names. I mean besides the fact that I am due in 3 days and we still haven't settled on a name. I knew that people would really piss me off with their opinions!
Stick with it......it's your kid not theirs. Next time they say something you should make a comment about their name......even if it's something simple and popular.

Wow! Im surprised you are getting that reaction. I don't know if its bc I know a few Marina's but I don't even find it to be that out of the ordinary. I think it's a very pretty name and I honestly didn't even think of a boat yard when I read this

People are going to have opinions about names no matter what. Our girl's name was Carleigh and the grandparents weren't fans. Don't take it personally! I love the name Marina!

I love the name Marina! I know a little girl named Marina and she's awesome.
People suck. I think pregnant women should be able to say, "F--- you!" to people whenever they piss us off and get away with it. I'm going to try it out when I'm out of the closet.

I didn't grow up in Brooklyn but knew a bunch of people with that name as well. People are just stupid. Ignore them. If you like it, that's all that matters!

People are a s s holes. That is why part of me wants to not tell anyone the name until baby is born. Then they will just think how cute the baby is and not care to comment on the name (hopefully!)
I think Marina is a beautiful name and all that matters is your and hubby love it. Try to ignore the comments. People have things to say about EVERYTHING and need to learn to shut up!
