Easter presents?

If you have nieces or nephews... do you give them easter gifts? Do your kids get them from their aunts and uncles?
When I was young I feel like we did get a card/check/money, but I'm not sure. I generally have not give mine gifts but I am starting to think I should be!

Re: Easter presents?

I do not have nieces or nephews yet, but I would at least probably be making them small easter baskets. That's just me, especially since I don't plan on having kids any time soon

Re: Easter presents?

... you got money from your aunts and uncle for easter?

... i just don't get the whole going crazy on gifts for easter?

what ever just happened to an easter basket with candy? i mean the whole point of the easter basket is supposed to symbolic of the feast at the end of the lenten period in which you've given up something and fasted.

i don't know. to each their own. i'm just saying -- for me personally, if you're gonna celebrate a religious holiday you should at least teach the kid something about what it actually is.

... and it's not at all actually about a bunny bringing you baskets of video games or cash from your aunts and uncles.

Yes, I get my nieces things for easter. I really spoil them so I usually get them clothes, a toy, and Spring Hershey kisses.

Re: Easter presents?

Never sent gifts for easter to all my nieces and nephews, since most of them are out of state.

The two that are local, we paint the eggs together and I help to make their easter baskets.

I don't have any kids in my life, but as a kid I did get money from my aunts & uncles and my grandparents...I never thought that was strange...it's what my family does. At 32, out of the house for years, engaged, then not engaged, my mom still gives me an Easter Basket!

Agree. I only got a basket of candy and little things from the "Easter Bunny" while I was growing up. I think sometimes my grandma would make me something small (she did ceramics), but never anything from aunts or uncles. My childhood bff always got these big, expensive gifts for Easter, and I never understood why.

Re: Easter presents?

I make baskets for my niece and Godson. Usually I put in and outfit, coloring books, bubbles and some candy.
I used to also get money in a card growing up from my aunts.

Same here. Growing up, I got a small basket, or some candy, but never large gifts. I never got anything from aunts or uncles, or any extended family. For my family, thats not what Easter was about.

I have one nephew. We used to get him stuff for every holiday but between his parents, both sets of grandparents, and his 6 great-grandparents my brother and SIL are just overwhelmed with stuff for him.

I usually give some combination of an Easter basket, stuffed bunnies or ducks and a pretty Easter dress.

Re: Easter presents?

I would always get a chocolate bunnyor chocolate cross or a stuffed animal (easter themed) from my great aunt and my grandparents. Never anything else. My SIL sent DS a stuffed bunny with jelly beans. I don't expect anything else.

Re: Easter presents?

My grandparents always gave me my Easter outfit. Aunts/uncles more along the lines of stuffed animals and candy. Now my parents always went overboard with stuffed animals, clothes, candy, small gifts, but never money. We don't really give money in my family though. As a kid, money meant nothing to me, I'd rather have stuff.
I'm now 33, married and pregnant, and I know my mom will still make me a basket filled with things, no money. It makes me smile.

Re: Easter presents?

no, I'm not giving neices & nephews any gifts. Maybe a chocolate bunny or other candy but Easter isn't a gift giving holiday, imo.

Re: Easter presents?

Yes we do but I don't like it. My brother in law and sister in law have always done it for my kids. Every year I tell them it is crazy and ask them not to do it... they do it anyway.
Now that they all have kids I would feel awful not doing the same but I think it is crazy to spend so much on Easter. Christmas and birthday sure.... I am the first to go crazy with gifts. But Easter??

I don't mind little baskets of candy and crayons and $1 store type items.... but they ( we ) do all out gifts. Each baskets always costs over $40 and as the family grows it is really starting to get out of hand Chat Icon

Re: Easter presents?

My SIL told me that they all need clothes so I got them an outfit each. I will probably make a small basket for my niece too. She is almost three and the twins are not even a year yet so I can't really do candy. I'll probably put stickers/coloring book and lolli pops. Maybe some M&M since she is obsessed with them.

I did back in the day. Now I have 16 nieces and nephews so we are trying to do away with it.
