can you believe this???
2 months ago while my SIL went out for a run her 1 yr old (who is learning how to walk) fell and hit his head . he was home with his father when this happened so he didnt mention it to her right away because he was ok (they have four rowdy boys) but later that night he had a big squishy bump so she took him to the hospital it turns out that he fractured his scull so Child Protective Services got involved. they came to her house a week later and asked for her doctors name and # and for the schools phone # of her older sons. They just called her last week and told her that since her oldest boy was absent a lot this year (he has a medical issue and ADHD and anxiety and on medication and he is in Special Ed)that she is neglected his education or something .....and she will not be able to open a daycare or do anything with children til the baby is 28yrs old....a letter came today that says the same thing
I dont understand why this is happening she is a GREAT mother I mean great!!!!!!She goes above and beyond. Now this makes me rethink taking my children to the dr or hospital when they get hurt!

When you want CPS to do something, it doesn't always happen. When they don't need to do something, something happens. It is soooo frustrating!

i dont mean this as a personal attack, But i think thats pretty unfair to say. I admit i'm biased b/c my husband works for CPS, and ill tell you, it is a ROUGH position... you really couldnt pay me enough to do that (and honestly, they dont either). But, just like every other job, they have their policies and procedures that they need to follow. Yes, the educational neglect thing is a stretch (and i think that CPS shouldnt have to take the place of truancy officers, but thats a whole other story),, But, when a case is called in, they have to treat every case the same, and follow up with all those aspects-- they can't 'go on hunch' as to which cases are True, and which are misinterpreted. And really, people get frustrated about them looking into Everything... but when that stuff went down in New Jersey with those foster kids... who was the first one to take the fall for it? the case worker. HE was the one that got scrutinized (and i'm not saying whether he was right or wrong in his folow up) But seriously, when something MORE comes of it, everyone looks to CPS like "WHY didnt YOU see this?!"

well said. It stinks when someone gets in trouble undeservingly, but I would rather CPS error on the side of caution.
I am sorry about your SIL though - it sounds like things went overboard.

Re: can you believe this???
neenie....can you ask your DH what it means when they have "indicated" you ....does this mean she is on probation or is this just on her record now? will they be popping in at home now I agree with the better safe than sorry thing but really she has documentation on all of her older sons medical issues (he was born with an unpreforated anus) so he does have problem moving his bowels since they had to creat a hole for him...he also had kidney surgery and he was born 9 weeks early so he has nuerological problems......what else is she supposed to do ?

Completely agree! If her older son is on meds for ADHD, there is obviously documentation of it. The child's pediatrician should write a letter on her bahelf stating that the older child's problems have nothing to do with an inability to properly care for children.

I do have to say in my experience when your young child gets hurt right wawy people start looking at you as if you are guilty of hurting them. when my youngest daughter was 6 months old and crawling she hurt her arm and when I brought her in to get the Xray the tech's were so nasty to me even the Dr was asking how a 6mth old could get hurt like that etc. I was very intimidated by these people they didnt let it go until they found out my 6 mth old had a sibling and felt that my older one roughhoused and thats how she got hurt
well WRONG to all who said that because it happened like 10 more times and she had nursemaids elbow (where her arm pops out)

Re: can you believe this???
I have never had that experience with my 2 children, When either one of them has ever gotten hurt the Peds always calmed me down and would tell me how it happens to all children, that Im human and that everything will be ok. If they are seeing doctors who make them feel guilty when there children get hurt I would advise them to GET A NEW DOCTOR. A carring, compasionate doctor would NEVER make the parents feel liek that.
