Upsetting Dr.'s Appt. Vent
I'm now going to the OB weekly since I'm 37w. I get a call from the OB's office today asking if I can come in today (Tues) at 2:40 instead of Thursday (when I'll be 38w)...I ask if I can get a Friday appointment instead since I just came in last Friday. She said that there are no appointments available that day, so I agreed to come in today. I even agreed to see the only person in the practice that I had a negative experience with (the Physician's Assistant that kept saying "big girls like you" to me when she meant to say "tall." Ugh).
Next door to my OB's office is this AMAZING grocery store (my DH calls it "an experience," haha), and I went to go hang out there a hour before my appointment since I didn't know how the weather would be. As I was about to step into the store, the OB's office calls me again and asks me if I would be able to come in as soon as possible instead of at 2:40. I told her I was right next door, and I will be there in a second without a problem. I get to the office (it's about 1:50), and they have me in the waiting room UNTIL 3:00PM!!!!! I've never had more than a 2 minute wait in this office before, so I was pretty annoyed that they asked me to come in early only to wait for over an hour.
Moving on...I've been feeling really, really nauseous and crampy the past two days, and wanted to talk to the PA about it to make sure everything was ok. She came in, told me she's going to skip over the internal since she "doesn't have time" for one, and ignores my questions that I have. She went to check the heartbeat...and as soon as she heard the heart, she went "::gasp:: Oh NO!" I asked if something was wrong, and she said "Yes, my plumber is supposed to be at my house at 3 and I'm late for that!"
I'm not the kind of person that gets angry easily--let alone express it--but I. FLIPPED. OUT. How dare the PA not have the professional manners and sensitivity to realize she's in the middle of examining someone full-term, and she should take her head out of the clouds and pay attention to what the patient is saying. I'm overwhelmed as it is, I need to know that my doctors are listening to me. She apologized a few times, but still rushed me out so she could make her appointment.
Thank the Lord she's a PA and will not be one of the doctors delivering me.
By the way, is fine, I'm the only one that's miffed!
ETA: I'd also like to clarify that I LOVE the doctors in this practice, and the staff is usually wonderful. It's just this one person that's I've had a past problem with!

OMG, I'd be furious too What the hell was she thinking, freaking you out like that?!?!? I'm glad that you are ok, & that you voiced your opinion... and even more happy for you that she is NOT one of the docs that might deliver. Talk about crappy bedside manner!

Re: Upsetting Dr.'s Appt. Vent
OMG I would've FLIPPED OUT over having to wait after being told to come in early and then that would've been the last straw!!! Their ears would still be ringing from the ruckus I'd have put up!!!! That's INSANE. I'd have a right mind to write a letter to the doctor and let them know the unprofessional and horrendous behavior of the office staff.
I have never in my life been told that there wasn't time to answer my questions when I went to a doctor's office, even back in my days of going to a super-busy OB-GYN in posh Brooklyn Heights, sometimes on my lunch break!!!! That behavior is inexcusable.
I know there are websites where you can rate your doctor's office experiences. I'd google for one of those and just put it all out in there, especially if you don't want to tell the doctor directly about the experience you had today. Might as well let future patients know what's going on!
I'm glad your baby girl is doing well in there! But I'm pretty insensed for you!!!!!!!!

to be honest with you...that kinda of treatment warrants a conversation with the doctor...the PA was totally unprofessional.

Re: Upsetting Dr.'s Appt. Vent
That's really freaking horrible!
I would not stand for it one bit. If it were me, I wouldn't let the PA skate by like that and I would report it. You have to have some sort of beside manner, the obviously does PA does not. You are in there for less than 10 minutes, do your job.

Oh that would have really annoyed me too! How dare she!
Well, next time they try to make your appointment with her I'd say absolutely NO WAY.
Plus, next time you see the OB you should totally explain this specific experience. They can't correct other staff members if they don't know they are "broken"...KWIM?
Go have an ice cream sundae to help cool off, you deserve it

Re: Upsetting Dr.'s Appt. Vent
Really, really uncool for them to reschedule and then make you wait for over an hour. That alone would make me flip. Then for the PA to basically brush you off during your appt, totally unacceptable. I would definitely file a complaint if you haven't done so already.
Glad to hear is all good though!!!

Wow that is ridiculous! You re-arrange your whole day around them and they make you wait. Then you have to deal with that PA? You should definitely call and complain to someone, her behavior was beyond unacceptable.
