How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?

My husband has set mid-February as the absolute earliest time to start TTC. Now I KNOW that the chances of conceiving the first month are slim, but I was just wondering. If you, or someone close to you, has a December birthday, how do you feel about it? My birthday is in June, and I LOVE having it then so that there was something big to look forward to every six months, and I worry that a kid with a December birthday gets shafted. Do you think I'm over-thinking this? Obviously tons of kids have that birthday, so it's not like it's the end of the world, but I just wanted to get some opinions.

My birthday is in November. As a kid a was always upset that I couldn't have a pool party, but on the other hand I really liked my birthday because I always had the day off since its Veterans Day.

Re: How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?

I thought the same as you about having a baby in December, January and February. After 9 months of trying to have a baby I really didn't care when it was born.

I am due the end of March and that is fine by me. Of course I would have loved to have a summer baby because my birthday is in the summer but you really can't plan for these things. So don't stress about it because you have no control over it at all.

My birthday is in November. I don't mind it. I believe there were a few years I b*tched and moaned that I could never have a pool party (um, we didn't even have a pool Chat Icon) but no long term damage here, lol. In fact, in my family we are all winter babies. I'm in Nov, my mom is in Dec, my dad is in Jan and my brother is in Feb. In my family, a birthday is a birthday and always gets celebrated Chat Icon

Re: How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?

I have to be honest. DD is November 26, and if I could change her b-day I would. It is on Thanksgiving every couple years, so I feel she misses out a bit....and it is a month before Christmas....From November 26 to December 25th it feels like a presentfest. Also with the expense of the holidays it gets tough trying to plan and have parties (I know we don't have to have them, but I do). So if I could have timed it different, I may have....but I wouldn't change anything now because that was the best day of my life, no matter what it falls near, even though I may complain sometimes.Chat Icon

Re: How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?

DS birthday is December 30th. He just celebrated his 2nd. We have always made a big deal, but honestly, I feel that his options are limited because of the cold weather and a lot of people are just not free during the holidays in general to have a party.

One place actually discouraged me from booking a party with them because I could be out a lot of money if a certain number of kids didn't show.

Some people have suggested doing a "half birthday" but honestly, I could see people making comments about that......you know how people can be in general.

And yes, it is expensive with the cost of holidays plus planning for a party. We are also feeling "toyed out" in our house right about now because he got so much all at the same time, really.

Re: How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?

DD#1 is Jan. 11th and I am the 14th. Is it ideal? No, but my kid could care less. It is harder on the parent with the planning and gift giving. However, as someone that struggled to have my 2 kids, I never even gave a thought as to when their birthdays would be. I just feel lucky to have been blessed enough with 2 healthy kids.

Re: How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?

My birthday is in November.

The only reason I sometimes hated having a November birthday, is that my parents are very strict. You only get to celebrate your birthday on the DAY of your birthday.

No party the following Saturday or Sunday -- nope you get one day and that's it.

Growing up my birthday always fell during the week, when we had school. So just about every year, never got to have a party or much of a celebration. My brother however, has a birthday in August. EVERY.single.year. he got a pool party. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

When we have our children, we won't do this and we'll celebrate when we can! That will stop the crappy part of having a November birthday.

Re: How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?

We have the most birthdays in our families in December and January and I always feel bad for people with birthdays between Thanksgiving and New Year's holidays....

But beyond that, because like I said...we have so many birthdays in my family between Jan 1st and Valentine's day plus two sets of anniversaries...

We are waiting until June to TTC just so hopefully, we will become pregnant and deliver between March-November of the following year.

Re: How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?

To me, all that matters is a healthy child.

I think the summer (especially June) is jam-packed with birthdays (I can think of at least 10 right now) and in July/august kids don't get to celebrate in school or everyone is away at camp etc. so there can be "drawbacks" in every season.

Re: How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?

I like a summer or spring birthday vs fall or winter, just b/c of the craziness of the holidays, etc and breaks up the excitement. WIth that being said, as much as it is ideal to want to choose when your child's birthday is, we are are dealing with a higher power and planning only works so much when ttc.Chat Icon But worth a shot if you feel strongly enough about it.

Re: How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?

there are a few winter babies in my family. i tend to feel bad for the ones who have to share a bday with thanksgiving or are really close to christmas.

i remember, when i was pregnant, and almost due... people would say, "how wonderful, a christmas baby"... i used to think that i would keep my knees glued together to NOT have my baby at christmas. he came 6 weeks later: first week of february.

honestly, i itched and moaned a bit... but at the end of the day, i'm blessed to have had a healthy pregnancy, a healthy delivery, a healthy baby, and now... a healthy teenager.

i've been blessed to know what it's like to be a mother.

ps there were a few years where weather kept us from celebrating, those years, we had a party in late march. no one seemed to care and we were able to enjoy milder weather

Re: How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?

DD is early November (11/10) and it's not so bad. I do wish we could have outdoor parties, but at least it's before snow season. My birthday is January 20 and I have always HATED having a winter birthday so close to the holidays. I know lots of people with December birthdays and it really stinks. My niece & nephew are both in December and my SIL used to put presents away to take out months later so they weren't so overwhelmed. As a pp said, you cannot always plan these things. This time around my twins are due in May, but will most likely arrive in late april. I'm happy it worked out that way, although I would have preferred late May or June. But since it took two years, I'm just happy to be pregnant!

My DHs Birthday is today.
My DS' Birthday is Saturday.
I really didn't want a winter baby, but, what can you do.
DH is working from home (happy birthday) and every year I pray hard for DS' Birthday party to not have to be cancelled.

Re: How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?

my brother and i are winter babies.. one right before the holidays and one right after.. and we always celebrated our birthdays in school and at home.. there's something so, so special about "holiday season" babies.. the whole world is in a festive mode..

yes the weather can be a bummer, rain, sleet, snow, BLIZZARD Chat Icon but all in all, if you make it special and go all out, the weather adds to the fun. I remember maybe once, I felt like I wanted a summer birthday, because I found a killer dress for my 21st birthday and it was tooooo darn cold and it was quickly vetoed.. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon now in hindsight, though I was a bit bummed if I had daughter, this might work to my advantage Chat Icon Chat Icon

But as the pp said, summer babies do miss out on taking cupcakes to school, and not have all their friends at their party because of vacation time and even a heat wave.. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?

Im a december baby. I dont mind it

Pro
1.) You get gifts like back to back bc xmas is right around the corner.
2.) Its the holiday time so your even more in a holiday mood and alot of time off comes with it.

Cons
1.) When your little depending when your bday is you prob wont be celebrating it in school with your friends bc of vacation
2.) When your little you dont get to have the cool pool party/ water park bday parties. But there is still alot of options to do other things. So its not a total con.
3.) Your gifts come in one month, so until the next year you dont get any additional gifts. Where as June babies get gifts in june AND december.

Re: How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?

I'm a November baby too and it sucked that I could never have outside parties or do fun things outside because it was always too cold. It's nice to know that when my bday comes, the holidays are around the corner.

DD is December 19 and again it's going to suck doing non outside things but it is what it is. The holidays are close too (she's only 1) so I don't know what that's going to be like yet when she's older. she was born in the blizzard last year, her 1st bday party was the date of this past blizzard the day after xmas. The track record doesn't look too hot lol

#2 is due in June and I'm so excited because the weather will be nice lol

Re: How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?

I just didn't want my kid to be born in that time period because from Nov 19th until Dec 13th we have my birthday, my dad, my MIL, my husband and my BIL...then Christmas. I wouldn't be able to afford another birthday during that time! Chat Icon

My mom has always made it a point to make sure all birthdays get celebrated separately from the holidays, and separate from each other. The only time that we combine anything is when my dad's falls ON thanksgiving. Then we usually get him the Carvel Turkey Cake and have them write happy birthday on it Chat Icon.

Re: How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?

Once we start TTC we are planning on not having a November baby simply because we already have 8 birthdays between Nov 16 & Nov 27. I would also like to avoid a December baby simple because my sister is a December baby & I am so tired of all of her years of complaining.

But obviously we do not care when our future child is born, as long as he or she is healthy.

Re: How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?

DD is January and birthday party planning stinks compared to my DS who is October who we are usually able to get away with an outdoor party..We are able to invite more people and overall its just more fun for the kids...
I don't think DD gets shafted being after C-mas, but I was not as on the ball as I normally would be with all the hype around C-mas as far as the planning stuff ( This issue will only be like this while DD is younger I'm sure, once she has friends etc, it will be different)

With that said, as an infertility patient, I "personally" would not plan my TTC around what month a baby may or may not be born...If its meant to be, its meant to be Chat Icon

I am a december birthday and it never affected me growing up. I was the youngest in my class (growing up in queens) and the smallest and it never botehred me. Maybe it was a pain for my mom to plan parties but other than that no biggie.
