F/T working moms, I'm having a really rough morning

I don't post very much but I'm really sad today. Maybe b/c I just had a big fight with DH over rushing to get to church when the house is a mess, laundry needs to get done, sheets need to be changed, etc., etc. I'm very stressed over my job. I'm 20 weeks pregnant with my second child and I just keep thinking, how am I going to do this with 2? I feel like I rush out of my house in the a.m with dd clinging to me and crying and then I am running around all day (I'm a teacher) get home @ 4:00 and after that it's all about getting ready for the next day. I just feel awful for my dd. I stayed late every night last week and this weekend she's attached to my hip, asked to sleep next to me, has told me about 20 times that she loves me. It breaks my heart b/c I just want to be home with my kids. I don't have a choice though b/c my salary pays the mortgage. I know I'm feeling sorry for myself but I'm just so upset right now. Thanks for listening.

I too am a FTWM and am expecting #2 in June. DD is only 11 months old but I feel the same way.
I was biiitching to my mom this morning how I need a maid. My house is upside down. I work so much that I come home and some nights I'm sleeping before dd.

I feel your pain. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I go back to work tomorrow after maternity leave. I'm a teacher too. I'll let you know how it is handling everything. I'm so sad about having to leave my three year old and eight week old. I'd give anything to stay home with them. So just know you are not alone

i am a f/t working mom of 2-i have a dd who is 4.5 years old and a 5.5 month old ds. it is not easy, but i have to work, there is no choice for us. but it makes spending time with each other that much more special. we make the most of it and i try to make special time with my dd. i work sun-thurs usually so that means we only get sat as a family day so we make the best of it. i am also really ocd about cleaning and things looking neat and at this point i have come to accept that i will never have enough time to keep things up they way i did before kids. as long as my kids and dh are happy then thats all that matters.Chat Icon

Is getting a house cleaner an option? I don't work FT and I have someone come every 2 weeks. If I worked FT I would need to have someone weekly. There is no way I could do it all.
Do you have to go to church? Maybe skip it some times just to give your family some down time at home and not feel rushed.

I feel the same way! My house is always a mess. Dh does help me a lot BUT at the same time he's a slob! I spent all day yesterday cleaning and the house is a mess again! I feel like I just can't keep up. Plus the added stress from work (Im a teacher too and I feel like every day they ask us to do something else).
I had a dept meeting on Friday and what they were asking of us was so overwhelming, not to mention teh aded pressure of taking a Graduate class, taking care of DH and DD, the house, etc. I literally almost had a panic attack, but I just got up and got control of myself. It is so stressful!
Im defineitly looking into getting a cleaning lady

Re: F/T working moms, I'm having a really rough morning

Hey girl,

Everything you're saying has been me lately, too. You know that I have 2 now. It's rough--I'm not going to lie.

I WILL tell you that in the 7 weeks I was home with both of them, I was itching to get back to work. Being a SAHM was not all it was cracked up to be...for me, anyway.

I agree about looking for someone to help you clean the house. We had a cleaner when we first moved to NC, before the kids...that was a total luxury. NOW, she's a necessity. My laundry would never get put away, my sheets would never get changed, and my rugs would never get vacuumed, if it were not for her. She is WELL WORTH the money. We simply could not survive without her. I'd share her name with her if I could because she is AMAZINGLY OUT OF THIS WORLD. But I doubt she'd be willing to drive 12 hours Chat Icon

We've given up going to church. I'm not proud of it, but it's just more than we can manage right now. Have you thought about going to the Saturday evening mass instead? Maybe that would be more manageable since everybody's up and dressed already.

Take it one day at a time...up until a few weeks ago, I was having myself about one good mini-breakdown a week from the stress of teaching and having two small children. But I'm learning and I'm finally starting to feel better.

Thanks everybody! After reading your responses and just talking to one of my BFF's on the phone, I'm feeling better. Granted, I'm also contimplating borrowing against my DH's 401K to stay home as long as possible, so maybe that's making me feel better as well Chat Icon
I truly appreciate you taking the time to read my post and responding!
