Sleeping in Mommy and Daddy's bed Question..
DD is 5.5 months old and lately she's been waking up in the middle of the night crying. I try soothing her by rocking, giving her her pacifier, rubbing her belly...which will stop her crying for alittle bit, but the only thing that really seems to work is when i put her in our bed....she stops crying and falls asleep immediately. I've been doing it for the past week, but i'm nervous this is becoming a habit.
Is this bad?

it's only bad if you don't want it to continue.
my son starts out in his crib but sleeps most of the night with us every night. he's one.
I love it.
in fact, when we got up this morning he was still asleep so I transferred him to his crib. I was in the shower when he woke up and so sad I missed our little morning rough housing when he wakes up.

Re: Sleeping in Mommy and Daddy's bed Question..
My DD wound up in our bed almost every night of her life until DS was born.
She didn't always spend the night and I generally discouraged that for the most part, but if she woke up at 5 I'd try to get her to snuggle with me because I don't want to be awake at 5am!
DS has started sleeping through the night but not every night, so on nights he doesn't, like last night, I bring him into bed with us because *I* need to sleep and going back and forth 100 time a night to put the paci back in his mouth just doesn't work for me.

Re: Sleeping in Mommy and Daddy's bed Question..
Around 5 months is when they start teething...that is kind of young in my opinion for CIO so I don't know if you want to go that route. You could try soothing her and putting her back down. It's only bad if you don't want it to become a habit. Some people are fine with co-sleeping - I'm not into it. If you keep bringing her in the bed she will keep waking up expecting to be brought into your bed - know what I mean?

Hunter does this too. Maybe I'll regret it later but we're fine w/ it for now. I actually like having him in there w/ us----I love having him curled up on me and hearing his little snores.

Re: Sleeping in Mommy and Daddy's bed Question..
My sister did it with her daughter and she regretted it because her DD never went into the crib. She went from their bed to a toddler bed. She would not even nap in the crib.
With my DS, we always put him in his crib unless he was sick. If he was in our bed for more than 2 days, he would want to stay so we have been very careful. It has made the transition from crib to bed really easy.

I agree. Charlie co-slept with us for most of the 1st year of her life. We decided that was enough and she went right into her crib...and we then turned her crib intona toddler/day bed. Now, at 29 months, she will crawl into bed with us when she wakes in the morning...and sometimes she climbs into our bed in the middle of the night.
It's one of our (my DHs and mine) favorite times of the day as a family

Re: Sleeping in Mommy and Daddy's bed Question..
We had the same thing happen to us around the same time. We ended up bringing JJ into our bed & it lasted until we did a firm CIO with him at 1 years old. There are still nights here & there (if sick) we allow him in our bed. But like others have said, it is only bad if you don't want her in there

Re: Sleeping in Mommy and Daddy's bed Question..
its not a bad habit if you like it, also, if you realise that breaking the bad habit will have to be done eventually, then its not a problem. My 8 month daughter is in bed with us every morning, she wakes at around 5.30, I nurse her and usually I get another two hours sleep from her in our bed, so its okay.
She is my last baby, so I am going to enjoy her while I can!

Re: Sleeping in Mommy and Daddy's bed Question..
When DS was an infant and used to get up at 6am everyday, we used to be jealous of our friends who would bring their DS into bed and sleep until 8am (DS would never do that). Now at 3yo, they're jealous of us because they cant get him out It all depends on how you feel about it!

Re: Sleeping in Mommy and Daddy's bed Question..
We did it with DD for a couple of weeks, she started waking in the middle of the night, it was from teething, and we were too exhausted to fight with her. I was sooooo worried it was going to become a habit, but once the teeth broke through and she stopped waking, it wasn't an issue anymore. She's been sleeping in her crib again. I expect we will go through this again when we have her next teeth come through, hoping to have the same luck again with it not becoming a habit.
Good Luck!

Re: Sleeping in Mommy and Daddy's bed Question..
DS is 3 month and he sleeps in his crib fine up until around 5 when he plays the paci games, i give it to him and it falls out or he takes it out and cries. so i have been bringing him into our bed and he will sleep up until 9 the next morning. i swore i wasn’t going to do this but when you are desperate for sleep you will do anything!!! i am wondering myself at what age would this would become a habit..

Re: Sleeping in Mommy and Daddy's bed Question..
IMO yes -
I don't want the kids sleeping in our bed at all - I don't want it to become a habit or an expectation - and I am not comfortable with it.
But if those things don't bother YOU, then it's not bad for you
