Ny to Florida

We are thinking of driving from NY to Fl this time since our second week will be a cruise. If we left at 9am and stopped somewhere at 9pm, in what state would be end up sleeping the night? i was thinking S. Carolina. Am I correct?

I couldn't tell you. I hated that drive with such a passion. I liked South of the Border, that was about it. Just too long and too boring.

Wherever we stayed the night, the next am when we were leaving, we heard shotgun blasts in the woods behind the motel (deer hunting I guess?? or wargames??Chat Icon ) Didn't need coffee that morningChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Ny to Florida

It depends on what time you start and how fast you drive (and how much traffic you hit).

My mom and step-father just made the trip down from LI to FL and back over the past two weeks. They stopped by us outside Raleigh both ways overnight.

The way my mom drives (which includes a LOT of breaks), they usually leave around 7 am and get here at 9 pm. Which is nuts... it should be like 10 hours TOPS to Raleigh.

It then takes them 15 more from Raleigh to Delray Beach. They are sloooooooow drivers!!!!

I think for normal people it's another 12-14 hours to south florida.

If you want to drive about 12 hours each day, you'd end up pretty much near the southern border of NC/SC, maybe even Florence, SC or South of the Border.

Re: Ny to Florida

DH leaves 4 a.m. and stops around 7 p.m., always at the first exit in Ga.

I have never driven - but have informed him that with a little kid, we'll be going at a slower pace LOL

Weekday or weekend> I personally would not leave at that time, because most likely it will be slow moving. I think you will hit NC. we drive a lot so we have tried just about everything.

Leaving at 4am from NY is generally your best bet to avoid traffic and keep a good pace which is thoroughly important with the kiddies.

Re: Ny to Florida

I have to agree with North Carolina. Something you might want to consider is leaving at night and driving all night long. It will be dark but you bypass the traffic!

It took longer than 12hrs, but this is what my parents did when I was younger and we made it all the way to Georgia! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Ny to Florida

12 hours without traffic would be South Carolina. There aren't many hotel/food options along 95 in SC so I would recommend stopping in NC or waiting until Georgia if you can last that long.

We have a time share in Santee that we stayed at when we were moving down there.

There is a great family owned restaurant down there. I can't think of the names but the food is so good!

It also has an inn there.
