sickie baby- when do I go to Ped?

Forgive me, I am a new Mom and have no clue if I should call/take my DS to the Ped. He has a cold, just runny rose, sneezy, coughing so far. No fever. I think he got it from my DH who had the same thing, not a bad cold at all.

I don't need to take DS to ped, right? If he gets a fever do I?

Also, I have been going in steamy shower w/him and nursing a lot. What else can I do for him, if anything?

Thanks Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: sickie baby- when do I go to Ped?

No expert here but I don't think I would worry unless he had a fever. Even then I think after 3 months it's not so much a big deal if he is acting normally.

Do you have an aspirator? Perhaps a humidifier and some saline mist for his nose will help.

I am dreading the day DS becomes sick for the first time. Chat Icon Hope he is better soon...

I probably wouldn't go just yet. Colds can take 7-10 days to get out of the system. As long as his cough sounds like a normal cough and he's not running a fever, is drinking/eating normal, then I would probably wait.

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Hope he feels better soon! I would just watch his cough. If it sounds like it is getting into his lungs I would bring him to the ped.

I know, I am so annoyed at DH! I told him not to breathe near DS and not to kiss him, etc, but he kept doing it!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon He's only 4 months, I was hoping he wouldn't get sick for a few more months! We have saline and humidifer, thanks.

Thanks, this is what I figured but I just wanted to make sure. I tend to be laid back so I needed some confirmation from BTDT Chat Icon

You could always call and tell them the symptoms and then the dr can tell you if you should bring him in.. I never know when to go either! I hope your lo is feeling better soon.

I wouldn't take him to the ped for that. If he gets very cranky, lethargic, isn't himself or spikes a fever a trip may be in order. There is nothing they can do for a cold virus.
