I am torn...did anybody tell work about being pg before 12 weeks?

I am 10w3d and I wanted to tell work because I have been feeling so sick. DH and I told so many people outside of work already but for some reason I am hesitant to tell work. I am not worried about being fired (I am in the union) but I am so stressed not feeling well and being here. What do you girls think? My original plan was to tell them on 5/22 after my 12 week appointment but I dont know if I can wait Chat Icon

edited for spelling!

I say you should tell them. I told my job before 12 weeks because I was also so sick and was on bedrest, so I wanted my bosses to know why.

I told work after my 8 week appointment. For me, it has worked out well that other people know, that way when I'm not feeling well people understand why.

Re: I am torn...did anybody tell work about being pg before 12 weeks?

Genna- I'm 10w 6days and I told my boss two weeks ago-I didn't want him to think I was looking for another job with all of my appointments!

I wasn't afraid of telling him and then something happening because the way I looked at it was if, G-d forbid, something were to happen I would need time off of work. Then, at least I could tell him the truth and take the time without feeling like I had to lie and then I would worry that he would think I was slacking off or not working hard.....I would want him to know that I really did have a good reason for taking time off.

I told me boss really early on too and thank goodness I did! I was SOO sick and during our busiest time of the year too! It really helped not having to sneak around AND she was pretty lenient with me and the OT requirements.

this is how i felt, however after having a m/c which they knew about and getting preggo soon after, people started putting 2 and 2 together. i needed to take time for appointments, so my immediate group knew before 12 weeks and others only afterwards...

If anything, just tell your immediate supervisor/boss... but don't let the cat out of the bag so soon to everyone else.

Re: I am torn...did anybody tell work about being pg before 12 weeks?

I told the director of the lower school and the phys. ed. teacher because we took the kids upstate to Frost Valley and I was afraid to do the hike, plus I am close with them. That was about 8 weeks into my pregnancy. Then about 3 weeks later I had to tell my boss because I was in a car accident and needed some time off to make sure everything was ok with the baby.

I had to tell some of my immediate coworkers b/c of some health concerns. Otherwise everybody else found out by word of mouth.

I'm holding off until I start my 14th week, but I'm not sick at all. I think you need to do what's best for your situation at work. I would only tell those that need to know this early.

I take x rays at work so I had to tell them the next day after we confirmed the pregnancy - I was only about 7 or 8 weeks.

I couldn't wait until 12 weeks - I was openly barfing at week 5.

Re: I am torn...did anybody tell work about being pg before 12 weeks?

I have to tell work as soon as I know this PG is viable and the EDD. Hopefully next week. They have to manipulate many other schedules to have my maternity leave so it's telling them is being considerate to others.

If we didn't have these issues, I'd wait until 12 weeks...
