Growing up, I wanted to be:
-married to C. Thomas Howell
- a journalist

I went to school for:
English Writing Arts
Secondary Education

Now I am a:
- middle school ELA teacher
- wanna be novelist/freelance writer (finally got started on this!)

This is my 500th post!!!


Growing up, I wanted to be a: Police Officer; Professional Bowler or Major League Baseball Player; Conductor or Motorman on the subways; Truck Driver; almost any hands-on occupation.

I went to school for: Mechanic "B"/Mechanic "A", in-house training program.

Now I am a: Mechanic "A".

I also occasionally drive a rack body or oil processing truck and operate a fork truck or man lift. I'm an avid bowler in leagues and tournaments, though as of yet I've never been a PBA member (I would be a Senior member, as I've passed my 50th birthday).
Now I'm looking forward to retirement in, maybe, 5 to 7 years.

Growing up, I wanted to be: Vet

I went to school for: Recon Photography in the USAF, then Health and HUman Services Administration then got a 2nd degree in Economics

Now I am a: Corporate recruiter in the entertainment industry

Growing up, I wanted to be: a journalist, then an english teacher, then an elementary school teacher.

I went to school for: Undergrad in English/Journalism, Masters in Elem. Ed.

Now I am a: Pre-School Teacher

Pretty much on the same path, but looking into other options because DH and I are struggling financially. Looking back, I wish I had gone for Speech Pathology.

I went to school for: criminal justice with plans to become a forensic psychologist or work for the FBI and go to law school

Now I am : a social worker

Yes plans definitely do change. My life plan definitely isn't what I thought it would be

Growing up I wanted to be: a teacher or in the healthcare field (nurse, doctor)

I went to school for: speech therapy/speech pathology

Now I am : speech therapist in a school ( well I was until June when i got let go due to all the buget cuts in NJ schools
)

But, I also have the option to work as a speech therapist in a more health care related setting ( like a nursing home or rehab center).... so i feel like i kind of went along with my plan from when i was growing up.

I went to school for: chemical engineering

Now I am a: chemical engineer (PE) working pt for an environmental consulting firm.... I have been a SAHM for 6 years now.

I went to school for: Never made it past generals

Now I am a: Project Analyst for a large Dept of Defense contractor.

yeah...no where near the ballpark...but still happy where I ended up

Growing up, I wanted to be: Mr. Softee, a cop, a pilot, coaching sports

I went to school for: Marketing/spanish

Now I am a: I was a cop for a short while. I also coached and reffed lacrosse for many years. I am now an investigator for an insurance co.

I am not overly thrilled with where I am career wise. I see myself going back to school at some point in the next few years for something in the health field.

Cute thread, I loved reading everyone's responses.

I will tell you this. The majority of people who actually get to live their life plan is very few and far between and considered VERY lucky.

Growing up, I wanted to be: a singer or writer

I went to school for: business

Now I am a: academic advisor for a university, not related but glad where i ended up!

Growing up, I wanted to be: Well, my 8th grade year book says that I want to be a child psychologist.

I went to school for: Bachelor's in Psych, Masters in School Psych, getting doctorate in school-clinical child psych.

Now I am a: Preschool psychologist.

All is going to plan except that I should have been done with my doctorate about 5 years ago...but I will be done within the next 6 months!

Growing up I wanted to be : a mom/housewife, an interior decorator, a ballerina, a lawyer, a social worker

I want to school for: social work for undergrad then education for graduate

Today I am a teacher and ready to be a mom, but not SAHM (except for the summers )

I feel like I am the only one who had no idea what they wanted to do, up until the time I fell into my career...

But I know I wanted to do great things, and I think I have done!

Now I am a: Benefit Authorizer for Social Security. I love my job.

Growing up, there was no particular job that I wanted... I never was drawn to any type of career specifically.

So I went to school for Biology & education (even though I never wanted to be a teacher. Don't know why I chose that, I guess I didn't know what else to do)

Now, I am regretting all my "career" decisions. But someday I'll figure it out!

Growing up: Ballerina, Fashion Designer, Doctor, Marine Biologist, you name it..

I went to school for: undergrad: Marketing/Corps of Cadets, grad: Contracting and Procurement

Now I am a: Naval Officer (was active, now reserve) and Defense Contractor in Acquisition, but have also done IT, Operations, Analysis. I love contracting.

Growing up, I wanted t be a waitress at Friendly's.

I ended up going to law school and becoming a lawyer but I DID work at Friendly's as a waitress for awhile when I was in college.

I went to school for: BS and PhD in neuroscience

Now I am: Unemployed!

I just finished recently, but now I do NOT want to do research or neuroscience, lol.
