Is it safe for an 11 month old to sleep with a blanket?

After 3 weeks of horrible sleeping, having to rock him to sleep, and 3 wake ups per night, my DS is back to falling asleep on his own and sttn!!!

I think he hated his sleepsack. In preparation for CIO, I took him out of his sleep sack bc at night he would cry and get upset and sometimes trip and fall bc of his sleepsack. And that night, he went to sleep all by himself with no crying and STTN . Same for the following 2 nights.

I can only guess the sleepsack was bothering him. Or maybe not but I'm so happy to sleep again that I'm reluctant to change anyting.

But, I'm so worried at night bc he has a blanket. What if it covers his head (last night i saw it up over his head and i freaked and woke him up when i moved it ). Is it considered safe at 11 months???

The blanket doesn't stay over him either bc he moves all over but that's another post

ETA: what i'm really afraid of is SIDS

I think it's fine. Both of my boys move(d) all over the crib so I don't give them blankets - but as long as you watch in the monitor I'm sure it's ok.

Tyler has a few toys in his crib - Jack didn't have anything until closer to 2 yrs.

DS sleeps with a blanket, probably has since about a month ago. He'll be 10 months on Thursday.

It's really cute b/c I lay him down and he waits for me to give it to him. . .then while on his tummy, he reaches his arms back, grabs the blanket and tucks it under himself He can't sleep without it now. It's not a big blanket though, it's a knitted one, light. He ends up just holding onto it by the end of the night.

What kind of blanket is it? My DS has had a crocheted blanket since like 9 months...There is no way he wouldn't be able to breathe, even if it was over his face.

DS has been sleeping with a blanket since I stopped swaddling him. I used a knitted blanket with holes in it.

Get him a sleep sack with the feet! They are a little harder to find, but that's what I use for my 2 DS. In the meantime, I would just layer if you think it is too cold. I know my DS wouldn't stay with the blanket on him anyway - that's why he's in a sleep sack!

Mine do..They didnt need one till recently, and they are big time movers so the blankets usually in the corner by the AM, but I cover them up with it when they go down.

DS has 2-3 receiving blankets in his crib. They are lightweight and he loves to cuddle with them. I cover him up but he pulls it off and throws it out of the crib some times...He is now 10 months old and I put the blankets in there in June...

Honestly, no one here can tell you that it's safe, or unsafe, YOU need to decide for yourself. Some people give their babies blankets as soon as they come home from the hospital - others not until they are in a bed. It's a very personal decision IMO

my son sleeps with a blanket and he is 11 months. I need a blanket to get cozy so I just feel like he does too!

my son is 13 months and sleeps with a blanket sometimes 2 if he is in one of his moods...and has been for a couple months

as long as they are breathable he should be fine

I hate to say this, but I didn't feel comfortable having DS sleep with a blanket until just recently.... he is 2 1/2. But even now - I am not thrilled with the idea, and he can't fix it himself. I am very preggo, so I am up all night peeing anyway.... so I check on him and fix his blanket a milliont imes a night.

When he was about 2 years old, maybe a little younger, DH found DS randomly and luckily at 6 am with the blanket wrapped around his head.

SOO, I am using a blanket with him for now, but once the new baby comes and I am out of it from not sleeping, I plan to just put him in warmer pjs. Even with a light receiving blanket, I don't feel like it's the safest thing.

DD is 13 months and doesn't sleep with a blanket. I'm still too nervous to give her one and she doesn't seem to need it (she STTN) so i'll keep it that way for a w hile. She sleeps with nothing in her crib.

DD has slept with a blanket since I brought her home from the hospital. It is her lovey, her pride and joy. I call her Linus.

My DS is 11 months and has a small knitted one. It is very loosely knitted, so I feel like it is ok. He waits for me to put it on him at night too. But, he moves a lot so it doesn't usually stay on him.

DS has a blanket in his bed - he uses it more as a wubby than a blanket though - he's like Linus.

DS is 7 months old and I have been debating what to do this fall. His room gets chilly and pjs aren't enough. I started giving him a blanket (crocheted with lots of holes) when he naps. I was paranoid at first but then realized after a few naps, that it just winds up in a crumpled ball on the side of the crib by the time he woke up.

So, I wound up buying the Halo sleepsacks with leg openings. They are $20 at BBB. I still give him the blanket at naps.

my DD has been sleeping with her blanket since 8-9 months. And she's just like her daddy. likes to wrap the blankie around her head
She gives me a heartattack every time i see it. But the dr said as long as they can roll and get out of it, it's fine.

Dd I almost 1 and has been sleeping with a blanket from 10 months on.....she needs it to cuddle and dr said it was ok....all the kids in her daycare class also sleep with one there....I think if dc rolls stands up etc it is ok

I am a worry wart and what I did was get a small (like 18 x 18 inch) crochet blanket (with "holes" if that makes sense) and gave that to him. Should be fine
