Pre K Morning or Afternoon
Which is better and why?
DD has two sessions at her school
A - 8.30 - 11.30 and B - 12.30 - 3.30
I dont have any other school going kids but do have a one year old - do you think one is better than the other?
Thanks

the only pain last year was DD#2's nap schedule...towards the end of the year her preferred nap time was 11:00-1:00. since DD#1 was going to school 9:00-12:00 i was always waking up DD#2 to pick up DD#1. no matter how hard i tried to keep her up, if she was tired she would crawl into my lap and conk out ...
now nap time has changed to 1:00-3:00 (she'll be 2 in november), so the only real "problems" we'll have are extended days (DD#1 will have to be picked up at 2:00 some Mondays) and dance class.

Re: Pre K Morning or Afternoon
I did afternoons with my oldest child and loved it. It was 12-230. My biggest reason was he was a late sleeper so to be there by 9 would have been impossible at that time and why wake him if I didn't have to. It worked out well since my youngest was 1 at the time and eventually moved to one nap - so he'd nap after I dropped off my son and I'd have some time to actually get things done around the house and have a little me time. So I vote pm's.
My 2nd son I just signed up for mornings - only because 1 - he still naps and 2-I have to be out of the house with the oldest one early anyway - so do the drop off's in one time out of the house and won't have to rush home after to preschool to pick up the older one. He also gets up much earlier the the older one ever did so no major issue there.

I think it depends on the child. We can't be anywhere by 8:30 because DD is (and always has been) a late sleeper.

Re: Pre K Morning or Afternoon
Thanks....I am torn. DD usually wakes around 7.30 but likes chilling out in the morning - we usually are not downstairs until 8.30am as she plays upstairs etc ....DS who is one usually takes a nap around 10.30am and this is his only nap of the day so I do like for him to get a full two hours at this time....BUT if I have to wake him to pick up DD his nap will be all scrappy and he will be like a bear.
Then again in a couple of months DS might change up to taking his nap later in the day...............agggggghhhhhh I wish I had a crystal ball.

Same here. I think they are most alert in the morning....and the time slot gets them ready for getting up and getting ready in the morning for school next year.

Re: Pre K Morning or Afternoon
It depends on the child, but I am assuming that your younger child will eventually go to the one afternoon nap a day and that means you will be child-free for a few hours. Mommy getting a break for a little bit gets my vote

Re: Pre K Morning or Afternoon
I think the 2 sessions is because of older siblings. I know at our preschool, the afternoon session lets out the same time the bus drops off the kids from the elementary school. So you couldn't be in 2 places at once. I did the afternoon session with my older DS (he's 4, but when he was 2 and 3), because I had a newborn and mornings were rough. Now that the little one is 2, we're doing the morning session for both of them. I figure we'll have earlier bedtime and my older one will start getting used to it for kindergarten next year

Re: Pre K Morning or Afternoon
I picked afternoon , thinking we'd never get up and out in time.
Only one day in and I HATE IT..I wish I had picked mornings. our entire day ALL YEAR is going to be revolving around afternoon school, where as we could have been done by noon!

Re: Pre K Morning or Afternoon
Thanks everyone So this is how today went.
DS woke up at 7am and proceeded to go in and wake up his cranky sister so we were up and well in time to maker her 8.45am start at school.
DS fell asleep on the way back into school to pick her up at 11.15 and woke when I took him out of the car to pick her up and did not fall back to sleep until 2pm when he only took a one hour nap.
DD fell asleep at 4pm on the way home from the park with DH and is still asleep
Day 1 = disaster for naps and sleeping schedules. Lets hope day 2 is better. How many more hours are there in this god awful day I am having
