(Mini UPDATE in First Post) Wow! Just Wow! Just when you thought things couldn't get worse.
So here I was dealing with yet another miscarriage and then trying to come to terms with the fact that we have to move to IVF and then I speak with my insurance company.....................it turns out the idiot, awful, useless insurance I have has a lifetime of max of $10K which okay fine, that would cover one IVF cycle. However, every time I've been at the RE for anything (blood. monitoring, IUI) they have deducted the costs from my $10K and now we have only $500 left.
So, long story short..........no IVF. No chance. I don't have $10K to pay for this. Once my beta drops they will let me do another IUI, it's my only hope right now because it would seem we have no other options. I just can't believe this is happening. I am devastated, a complete emotional wreck. I just always assumed the $10K was set aside for IVF, GIFT, ZIFT, and exclusive from the IUI's and such. Guess I was wrong.
Now I just pray IUI works at some point this year. I have no other options or I guess my sweet, amazing, miracle baby Emerson will be an only child. I am just so beside myself. I cannot believe what I have been through this year and now this. It's so upsetting. I always wanted 3 children and I guess that will only be a dream for me because my reality isn't looking so great anymore.
Thanks for letting me vent.

UPDATE - So I have made consultation appointments with both Dr. Braverman and LI IVF - Dr. Kenigsberg. Thank you to everyone who FM'ed regarding the grant. I have a call in to the person who handles the grants at LI IVF and they are sending me a packet of information prior to my consult on the 23rd. I am a little excited as it seems we 100% meet all the requirements for the grant so I am we luck out here and get some help. I will keep everyone posted. Right now we plan on another Clomid/IUI Cycle and should that not work hopefully by then we'll have some better idea if we can go ahead with IVF. Thanks for everything ladies!!!

I am so sorry you are going through all of this I know a friend of mine got some kind of grant that made it possible for her to do IVF. I am not sure how those work though. Prayers for you

Re: Wow! Just Wow! Just when you thought things couldn't get worse.
I'm so sorry! were they supposed to do that? Is 1 IVF cycle $10k? it doesn't seem right that IUIs count toward that also.
but if so, then maybe just put yourself on a strict savings plan? this is what DH and I do when we know we need a big expense coming up... we automatically set aside x amount per month so we don't "miss" it.
I hope this works out for you - don't give up!

Re: Wow! Just Wow! Just when you thought things couldn't get worse.
Unfortunately one IVF cycle will be at least $9-10K. There is no way we can save for that in any amount of reasonable time. I am 35, I don't have time on my side here and I don't want my DD to have years and years between her and her siblings.
I am going to schedule a consult with Long Island IVF since they have a grant program in place and I will also meet with Dr. Braverman as well and see if he can help us at all too. I have some time to research all of this now that we can't proceed right now with anything more than another IUI.

i am so sorry. I believe your RE might have made a mistake as all that blood work, etc was supposed to be billed outside of $10K. Is it possible to go back to RE billing person and discuss this?

It is my DH's insurance. I am a SAHM so I don't have any insurance of my own.

It's not really the RE's fault, as far as Cigna is concerned anything relating to the diagnosis of "Infertility" is deducted from that $10K.

nope, i do not think so. RE bills it under a certain code. For example, mine is getting billed under PCOS or undefined dx. They need to avoid that" Infertility" label.

Re: Wow! Just Wow! Just when you thought things couldn't get worse.
also, this is the lifetime max for Cigna only, I think. In other words, if your DH finds another job that offers any other type of insurance, I think you can start over. Please do not despair!

We had great insurance with Oxford and then his company switched to Cigna this year and it s-u-c-k-s. I hope enough people are unhappy they switch again at the end of the year. It's my only hope as my DH is not about to look for another job.

Unfortunately, I don't know that they can go back and reassign a different code to all that billing so long after the fact. I sorta think I am screwed in this respect. Had I known about this months ago I would've known to have them avoid submitting is as infertility but I think it may be too late now. I can call Cigna and ask but I think it's unlikely anything will be done in my favor.

I'm so sorry. You have been through so much lately; This really isn't fair. You are in my prayers and I hope everything works out. Maybe this round of IUI will work for you.

Re: Wow! Just Wow! Just when you thought things couldn't get worse.
that stinks.
if you don't find a solution through insurance do you think you could borrow money from a family member? maybe your parents? siblings? a friend? or put it on your credit card?
i know you said you want a sibling for your LO but look on the positive side of things, you are blessed with a child and you said she was a miracle that is something to feel blessed and happy about when it's getting you down.
praying you find a solution
