volunteer opportunities?
I am looking for a place where I can volunteer some time. I'd love to do a soup kitchen or something along those lines. I don't belong to a church so that is out.
I live in PJS and would like to do it locally
any ideas?

Re: volunteer opportunities?
I just saw in my library newsletter that all of Suffolk county is training tutors for adult literacy. They have a q and a session at the end of September and then there are trainings on Sundays on October. I have no idea how much you actually tutor, but if you are interested here is some info.

Do you like animals?
There is a no kill shelter in Port Jeff on 112 just north of 347 called Save a Pet.
I used to volunteer there by helping out with the dogs (walking, brushing, etc.) but I moved and now live too far. I miss it, though.

Search for a Peanut Butter and Jelly gang in your town. Most towns have them.

Re: volunteer opportunities?
Please consider volunteering at Hobbs Farm in Centereach!
It is not-for-profit and everything grown goes right to the food pantries.
They are DESPERATLY in need of volunteers to weed, harvest, plant - whatever.
You can even take home a bag of fresh (chemical free!!) veggies.
Find it on Facebook at "Bethel Hobbs Community Farm" or www.hobbsfarm.info
Or come tomorrow and visit the Farm Stand open from 4-7.
